Poll:How much do you spend on Wine, Beer & Liquor on Average?

I would say I spend $600.00/month on good red wine. That does not include wine at restaurants a few times a month.

    Social Security question for you.

After reading these responses, not all, but most, it’s amazing that a good deal of people over 60 don’t understand how to get the highest benefit from social security. It’s just stunning that a financial benefit for retirees is so misunderstood by upcoming retirees. There is a lot that can be...

How much you'll really spend in retirement

Easily spend 130%. Retirement is fun, enjoyable. A lotta travel to Europe for many weeks at a time, cost money. The experience is great but expensive. The day will come when my wife and I can’t do it anymore, so now is the time.

Just looking from more dialogue on this subject. Very very few take SS at 70 and not anyone I know takes it at their FRA. I am referring to people that are financially sound and are well informed about SS. Why wait. Don't get it. The money's there, take it. Sent from my iPhone using Early...

I turned 62 in August. Not claimed yet. I'm not at all concerned about my wife if I go first. She is two years younger than me. She will be well financially whatever happens to me. This is great news for me, I guess. Where does someone like me go from here. We both got other income incase...

    SS questions

It amazes me that more than 80% of upcoming retirees or recent retirees don't have all the necessary facts about all SS rules. I'm not going to go into details, it would be too long of a response. Most here have a lot to review regarding SS. Not just the longer I wait the more I get. As this is...

There is a lot of great information hear. Keep it coming. This seems to be the most popular subject on this site. When to claim SS??? Seems like the best response is that we all should look at this monthly as we approach age '62' and go from there. I don't see how anyone can make a blunt...

It appears to me the reason people delay until 70 or after FRA and are already retired is to make sure their spouse gets a bigger check if they go. As I am about to turn 62 and my wife has enough $$$, no reason for waiting to long. Have pensions, stock dividends, 401K's, real estate, etc.... To...

Laurence Kotlikoff - Maximize my SS.com

Many on this post refer to taking SS at 70. Almost no one takes SS at 70. The percentage is between 1%-2%. So pretty much none of us will take SS at 70. We should discuss SS between 62 and FRA, not an age pretty much none of us will wait to collect. Based on the stats, my comments have a 98%+ as...

You should take SS at 62

I can't leave SS to my sons and my wife, if she survives me will get whatever she gets, not a concern. Longevity wise, my fathers side lived to their late 60's, my mothers side into their 90's. My fathers side smoked, my mothers side, no one did. I never did, but there is more to it than that...

You should take SS at 62

I am 2 1/2 years older approaching 62 within 3 months and can file now if I want at 62. No longer working, put in the 35+ years that SS determines your benefits. As I am here, my situation is my wife can live very well, wether I get 1850.00 a month now or 2650 a month at 66, if I go. I know...

You should take SS at 62

What you stated is true and a fact. What we all don't know is how long we will live. That is why this thread has over 200 responses. Which Is fine. We all learn from each other. Please all continue to provide your thoughts. Sent from my iPhone using Early Retirement Forum

SS at FRA vs. at 70 - Unexpected results

From the stats I see, the percentage of people that wait till 70 to take ss is in the single digits. Almost no one does. Very few live till 90+, but we all hope we can. I don't need to be blunt, but those are the facts. If you happen to live that long for a couple of years beyond 88, then...
