What is the last thing you ordered from Amazon?

Compression sox for wearing on our flights, wired headphones for DGS who are too young for wireless, some more fidget toys for DGS for the plane trip this summer. Their back packs full of things to do on the plane are almost done!

What OLD series/movies are you watching? *Spoilers welcome!*

    Fentanyl Dangers

Fentanyl is designed for intractable pain, most often for cancer, and short term after surgery. Used correctly, it is very helpful. Very dangerous otherwise. Any street drug is cringe worthy, as there is no way to know the potency. Every generation has had its "drug of choice". Nowadays...

"Vertigo" Directed by Alfred Hitchcock (also comment on other Hitchcock movies)

The Birds. To this day, I do not like seeing a bunch of crows in our yard or on the electric lines! Vertigo is good, as is The Rear Window. I have never watched Psycho completely.

    Maintaining our relationship in retirement.

Good article. We have "me" time and "us" time every day. It is important for each us to be able to pursue activities that the other might not want to participate in. We've both been retired 7 years, about 4 years in, we hit a rough patch. It lasted most of the summer one year. But, we...

    awash in space aliens

I used to work with a person who brought all kinds of information to me regarding aliens, ancient theories, etc. I found it fascinating. Believable? Not so much, but you never know!

In Your City - What Are The Most Desirable Neighborhoods and Why?

Smaller city/town within 30-60 minutes of major airport, good medical choices and trauma hospital nearby, plenty of shopping choices for food/supplies. Good police/fire and safe neighborhoods, good schools based on teacher ratios, variety of classes and test scores. Walkability--nice parks, at...

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Rainy Sunday, so staying in today. Need some things from Costco and may do an online order for delivery. I have never done that for Costco, but I don't feel like going there for just a few things.

A Friend in need , how can I help

Your wife is correct in my opinion. You can be a listening ear and guiding voice towards credit counseling and any other suggestions. If his wife is still teaching, she will need to continue at least until 65 and hopefully has a pension. If their son is not paying them any rent, etc, he should...

This weather is awful - 2024 to ?

Supposed to rain today and for the next 3 days, but right now it is sunny. We are still a bit low in yearly moisture, so rain will be nice when it arrives

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Taking it easy today. Yesterday did a stupid move--pup wanted to sit on my lap, so did a bend, twist, lift (dumb, dumb) and my chair rolled out from under me. Landed hard on my bum with the dog in my lap. Back, neck and bum sore last night and today. Nothing broken. Using ice, heat, and some...

    Luggage

My husband takes his CPAP as a carry on, but since it is a medical equipment, it does not count as your "one' carry on or personal item. He got a "medical" sticker at the counter. At least on Alaska Airlines, he was able to have his backpack, cpap, and camera case.

What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

Around here, folks think traffic circles, or roundabouts, are speedways! Enter at your own risk. I have been to places where they work well, wish it happened everywhere.

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

You are doing the right thing, it is difficult dealing with aging, ill parents. I've been there. Take care. Today I plan to go get the flowers for the pots on our decks. Always wait until May for warmer weather. We can have April frosts and occasional snow.

    Texas Teacher Retirement/other options?

I agree with TT, selling the house in Louisiana and moving to Colorado seems like a better fit for what you are looking for.

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

We carry cash for dining out and we use our debit card quite frequently. We have never had a problem with it. I have all of the alerts on it, and could catch anything rather quickly.

What was your happiest moment today?

It is a sunny morning after a day with heavy rain and hail storm, glad I haven't planted my flowers yet! I will get to that next week. Finally got the rest of the orders for the fidget toys, books, etc so I can fix the little travel back packs for two DGS for our trip this summer. Need to keep...

Easy Social Security Question (I think)

Yes, we had to fill out the form also. We signed up for SS in person, but were never told of the form then! We went back to do that and rather than waiting for an appointment, the security guy actually got the forms and envelops for us and then showed us where to put them afterwards. Nice guy...

    Credit Union financial advisor ?

Our CU had a FA also. We met with him twice over the years prior to retirement. We never invested via him, but he gave us some good advice and reassurance. He had a good understanding of our work pension and ran several scenarios including Social security taken at different ages. He did give...
