    While we are discussing toenails....

I tried vaporub...no dice. Started using hydrogen peroxide 3% on all my toes as well as the big toenail that has the fungus. Doesn't go away but helps a lot. Also helps whiten all the toenails. Hydrogen peroxide also helps kill fungus, so brush under the nail bed and over the top of the nail...

What is your pet peeve of the day?

I got one of those too! Plus the "good neighbor" cleans his yard before mowing by tossing the doggie dung over his back fence onto an empty lot along with the grass clippings. He begins mowing around 8pm 3x a week just to make sure he thoroughly disturbs peace in the 'hood.

I could do that but there would be no need for LT care insurance...no long term for me

RIP Ray Sawyer (Dr Hook & the Medicine Show)

I just found out that Ray passed in December. Always had a fondness for their tunes. My old band used to cover some of their songs. Ray Sawyer (February 1, 1937 – December 31, 2018) was an American singer and vocalist with the 1970s rock band Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show.

Buyers remorse-what did you buy in retirement that you regret?

There have been several things but the one that tops DW's list is not one but two corvettes. Nice cars and fun to have but not smart (of which I am constantly reminded). Insurance, taxes, fuel etc. I recently took my 4 yo grandson out to the garage to show him the cars thinking he would be...

    Advantage vs Supplement

We are still trying to decide which way to go. We have had Medicare A/B and BCBS Supplement for 4 years. Supplement premiums continue to increase with age, predictably. We fortunately live in an area with many hospitals and emergicare facilities, so finding a facility that accepts either type...

My DW and I are seeking information you fine folks may have regarding your experiences/opinions on home and auto insurance companies. July 4th celebrations 2 long 4 us

Favorite story Lincoln was fond of telling: Ethan Allen returned to England after the war, and the British made fun of him. One day they put a picture of George Washington in an outhouse where Allen would be sure to see it. He used the outhouse but said nothing about the picture. Then the...

    July 4th celebrations 2 long 4 us

Our 4th of July celebrations began June 24th when fireworks go on sale in our town and last every night past midnight til ~ July 10th. We are out of city limits so there are no city restrictions (as if that does any good). Many people complained in our newspaper OpEd. One wrote "what happened...

    Plumb Flushed

Recently we noticed a spot on our basement finished ceiling that turned out to be a leaky drainpipe. We had a plumber perform the repairs at a cost of $964.00 and drywall repair and retexturing @ $225.00, expensive but no where near our HO insurance deductible. The plumber said he had never...

    Homestead Exemption/real estate tax relief

In Nebraska, it seems they can only tax cows and people since we have essentialy nothing else to tax and believe me, they tax us to death. Real estate tax on our home, ($245,377) is nearly 6k. In addition, we are taxed on SS and pension income.

    Homestead Exemption/real estate tax relief

We filed for Homestead Exemption this year (waiting to see if we qualify for partial real estate tax relief). We are trying to keep our taxable income low to qualify for at least a partial homestead exemption. Medical expenses are deductible so Nebraskans with higher incomes and high health...

    The Velocity Channel

I enjoy watching the Velocity Channel. I often wonder when they start the bidding on some exotic car at $1.2 million and the hammer falls at $3 million or much more. Who are these people? Maybe I should return to FT employment?? I am enjoying retirement, however, and am satisfied driving my...

    Oil Change on cars

I recently began changing my vehicle oil once again after a long sabbatical. Having the time to do it, cost of having a shop do it with inferior products, are the 18 y/o "oil technicians" doing a good job? and being able to purchase a quality product at a fraction of the cost are all...

    Bill Pay with Credit Cards

We began paying household bills with credit cards rather than through bank bill pay or the old envelope and stamp routine a few years ago. My wife was not thrilled with the idea at first thinking that we would incur too much credit card debt but I reasoned that it was money leaving the nest...

If you are not working, why would someone wait until 70 to collect Social Security?

We filed a restricted application in March of this year before the rules changed on May 1st. We had planned on using "file and suspend" strategy. Spouse took her SS early and I filed for spousal benefits. I will wait until 70 to collect my SS (or as long as we can afford). We are currently...

    Homeowners Insurance Premiums

Thank you for the reply. I do shop for quotes each year our policy renews however, the quotes that I receive from other insurers are usually much higher. I think we may be stuck with what we have. I just wonder at what point the premiums moderate if ever?

    Homeowners Insurance Premiums

Hello. My wife (65) and I (66) have been retired for several years. I was wondering if anyone else has been apalled by escalating homeowners insurance premiums? We have owned our home in Nebraska for 16 years and have never had a claim. Our premuims have gone up $700.00 since 2014. When I...
