Why Isn't Good Cheap Internet Available Everywhere?

-1. I like the fast stuff. Also don't miss someone picking up the phone and crashing my connection. Also, surrendered our landline phone around 2004 - only used by telemarketers calling at dinner time. Besides, boobs took forever to load. ;D

This upcoming TX festival isn't canceled

Fed deep fried sheep testicles to my SIL decades ago. Told her they were popcorn shrimp. Grudge remains firmly in place.

    Delayed portfolio withdrawals w/ FIREcalc

Not sure how anchored you are to your location, or the tax status there. We recently moved from a somewhat tax friendly state to a very tax friendly state (for both 62 YO and military retirees). We fit both criteria, so moving was akin to a substantial pay raise. There are numerous threads here...

Should SPIAs be part of your AA?

Just my $.02. I received a buyout in 1992 that pays annually for 28 years (yup, about to run out of gas).:frown: Even with the modest inflation of the past 3 decades, the funds have approximately 50% of the buying power they originally did. While inflation is modest now, who knows down the...

    What We're Making

+1. We bought a tent style that you poke your head out of on Amazon for ~$100 to see if we would use it. We do, so our upgrade is exactly like your photo - 2 people capacity & 115 VAC. The tent style looks incredibly goofy. But, if one can get past that, it does what you want a sauna to do...

FIRE Update (FIRE in a COVID world)

None of these should harm your exit plan or time. My $.02 is: None of us (except a few brave souls) are travelling much by air. So, just park that travel money in a bucket and use that for any hike in itnl air (which I highly doubt for the foreseeable future). Yeah, many here are bummed out...

Using Wastewater to Detect and Track Coronavirus SARS2

https://www.mtu.edu/news/stories/2020/may/tracking-and-treating-covid19-in-human-waste.html Another article about tracing C19 in wastewater. There's several on-line. This one's about validating that the virus is inactive in treated water. Others about the virus being identified in fecal matter...

Please share your snowbird budget with me!

We have rented 2 BR (pet friendly) ocean front condos at MB for ~$1200/month. Weather is as PB described, mostly pleasant with a few cold snaps. Numerous flags from Canada and many northern states hang from the balconies. We vacay there not for the weather, but to stay at a huge, uncrowded...

Did your retirement diverge from your plan? If so, how did it go?

Glad that you escaped. Sad for the residents of Venezuela. Hoping the best for your relatives stuck there. It's so ugly.

And you're predicting the market will cease to be volatile and uncertain exactly when? ??? With that mindset, perhaps an FA is in you're best interest.

New habits that are likely permanent

+1. Ditto on both counts of misconception. But not commuting was a GREAT perk. Worked from home unless travelling for last 3+ years. When I started in that role, my team would fly in to corp office every week. I put the kibosh on that. They were all tech roles that could be done anywhere. Some...

    Cabin fever

Headed to Tallulah Gorge tomorrow. The little store that overlooks the chasm will close at the end of the month. :frown: After staring into the ditch for a while, we'll probably scope out some waterfalls and wineries in the area. Will bunk in Helen after a good jagerschnitzel and sauerkraut dinner.

New habits that are likely permanent

I'm more of an optimist and don't predict major long term changes. C19 might be around for a while, but I think science will defeat it by YE 2021. However, I will be searching for products that come from anywhere BUT China. I will also be politically active from my district to DC in getting US...

Yup, we're about an hour S-SW of Helen. A town that we frequent (weekdays and off season only).

    Tesla is off the rails

Exactly the point. I'm pretty sure Musk also did not want hire design engineers that built a car that looks like a dog taking a dump. But GM did - twice.

    Tesla is off the rails

+1. Even with millions of vehicles sold, GM can still produce some dogs - - -like the bolt. 2019 US sales? <5000 units. Big doesn't mean great.

Beef Quirky A play on jerky. I cut skirt steak on the bias into strips and marinade for a few hours. Then, put em in the smoker at 230ish for perhaps 75 minutes (if I'm lazy, I add a little liquid smoke to the marinade, then into the convection oven). Once they are firm (not hard), I pull them...

Talk to me about golf carts!

One can add a rumble seat above the bag well and convert a traditional cart to a 4 seat vehicle. Cost is ~$300.

Talk to me about golf carts!

$3K can get you a nice golf car, but probably not a NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle). Try to find a good retailer (that does both sales and service) by asking around, google, etc. Let them know what your seeking and what you can spend. I think you'll do fine. Happy motoring...
