    FAVORITE CLASS B RVs?

We've an Airstream Interstate. Our second RV. Previous was an older Chevy based RoadTrek. I will say they need continual maintenance. If you're not handy, you'll spend a lot of time and money at rv service centers.

    Is "avoiding probate" a scam?

I'm with you. Friends and relatives tell me how they have carefully$ crafted$ wills/trusts to account for every possibility, no matter how unlikely. I made sure my financial accounts list my beneficiary. In the unlikely event I still own property that'll need to go thru probate. My surviving...

    Reducing number of autos

4 cars and currently purchasing a motor home (15 Jeep suv, 08 sports car, 01 beater Benz, '57 classic). Problem is when something breaks, they all seem to break at the same time! And while busy with a construction project. (Sigh) Sent from my SM-G998U1 using Early Retirement Forum mobile app

    Rust Proofing a Car

Keep it clean and polished. Garaged if you can. Rinse the inside wheel wells when you're able. Repair scratches or dents quickly. Should last 20 years easy. Many franchise rustproof shops have gone out of business up here. Not worth the cost and didn't honor their warranty. Sent from my...

How do annuities get distributed to beneficiaries?

Met with my parents financial advisor. Met with my parents financial advisor. He was little help, but, was able to answer questions with very generic answers. Was surprised, no hard sell from him. Variable annuity is with TransAmerica. They no longer use this product; as a result, advisor...

How do annuities get distributed to beneficiaries?

Now distributions from a trust Thanks folks, Realize I didn't give much info to work with but all I have at this point. I really appreciate your responses. It greatly helped me do some proactive research. Brother (executor/trustee) isn't detail oriented when it comes to financial matters...

How do annuities get distributed to beneficiaries?

My mom recently passed and I'm due a small inheritance. My dad (when alive) used on of those high-cost financial services (2% aum). A brother has managed their finances, as such, I have relatively little info or input on their investments other than a copy of the quarterly statement. One asset...

How to Find Air Leaks into House?

Lots of great advice here. I also build houses for Habitat in MA and agree with the above post about the extraordinary work done to insulate their homes. Since you're taking specifically about basements I'll add one more thought; the sill plate on older homes are a big leaker. Those boards...

    Anyone else doing Invisalign?

Been about 5+ years since I've completed my invisalign. Afraid to say I haven't been keeping up with my nighttime retainer usage as of late. They are moving right back towards their original position. After a week or two without it's a bit painful to get the retainers back on.

Decent income but put on Medicaid!

Bob, on MassHealth as well. The online signup is horrible. It mostly collects info, but doesn't provide much if any back to you. Providers under MassHealth aren't great, and vary by region. Had Tufts first year, didn't like any of the doctors. Saw my longtime doctor (he lives two houses up the...

I'm Not That FB Friendly, Really ...

Use FB daily, mostly from my phone. Keep my friends list very short and unfriend or ... those that generate content I'm uninterested in. What I use mostly are FB groups for my interests. Its similar to this type of forum, but a little easier to navigate and post and add pictures. Groups like...

    professional relationships after retirement

Welcoming to retirement. I've not had much success with keeping in contact with my co-workers and colleagues. Started by exchanging email and occasional phone calls but, wained over time as did my relevancy in the field. Hope you have better results.

    Fee for cash buyers???

My understanding of loan amortization is that the first 3 monthly payments of a loan are predominantly interest and very little principal. Regardless of the interest rate. So, are you simply adding to the purchase price of the vehicle?

Cost of Copper Re-Pipe in the SF Bay Area

Another suggesting PEX. Plumbed a number of Habitat houses over the past few years. All supply lines are PEX. All heating lines are PEX. With the exception of near the boiler and near the water meter as required by code. Note copper is exceedingly difficult to work with by comparison. Second...

    MassHealth Estate Recovery notice

Thanks for the replies. Just wondering if anyone else got a similar notice. Guess when this comes due it'll have loads of fees and compounded interest but, I'll be long gone. A bit disappointed by the retroactive nature of the notification and no idea of actual costs incurred.

    MassHealth Estate Recovery notice

FIREd 4+ years ago. Been keeping my income very low, pulling about $10k from my Rollover IRA; remainder from post-taxed accounts. e.g., taxable income near zero). Back then there was a health care mandate. Applied for ACA in my state and at my income level, was given a MassHealth plan. For...

Tax implications in selling rental property?

Thanks folks, It's what I thought, she's going realize a healthy tax bill next April. Don't believe she's planning to reinvest in another (like-kind) property any time soon. Will this tax be due April 15th, 2022, or will she need to make quarterly tax payments ahead of time?

Tax implications in selling rental property?

Wondering about tax implications in selling rental property. Thought I'd ask the smart people here. My DGF is selling a multifamily property she has owned for 33 years. Was originally owner occupied, but, 20+ years ago she moved in with me and it's been rented ever since. My understanding is...

    Recommendations for new kitchen cabinets.

Retired techies, are you still engaged in tech?

Longtime software engineer. Somehow I thought in retirement I'd find myself volunteer coding for some open source package. Tried it for a bit and found I've absolutely no desire to stare at a monitor hour after hour (without the incentive of a paycheck). Just today this thread finally...
