You hit an FI number, now what?

"The number" was just one of a number of factors. I had a list of tasks that I needed to complete prior to ER, and I would say I didn't notice the day I hit/ passed the number as I was lost in "the fog of work" (credit Nords). As you have half your assets in fixed - this should mitigate your...

Backdoor Roth All At Once - Single Tax Year Pain

Yes, you can convert following a correction (hopefully near the bottom but it's hard to tell) and yes, you can pay your taxes out of a taxable account. (I try to up my conversions in kind during market downturns.)

We're having a thunderstorm currently but hoping it will be brief as the doggo requires mandatory hiding throughout- for both of us.

    my toxic inheritance

But if the corporation has insufficient funds to hire someone to do what you are doing - and would go into a death spiral without you - how valuable is it - without you at the helm? I am not / nor have I ever been an entrepreneur, but before buying a position in a small corporation, I would...

    my toxic inheritance

Why don't you just step away from the management position and tell them to hire someone else to do the work and send you your share of the income? I'm not sure why you would have to gift or sell your shares.

A Friend in need , how can I help

It really can be. Sometimes it is difficult for those who have never experienced it to understand how overwhelmed and helpless the sufferer can feel. You were the best friend you possibly could have been and I'm sure he appreciated and cherished your friendship.

    Maintaining our relationship in retirement.

Respectful, kind communication, compromise (negotiation), and an interest in your spouse goes a long way. When DF retired DM initially couldn't stand it. He was used to bossing around people at work and started to (attempt to) micro manage her - which did not go over well. They calmed down...

A Friend in need , how can I help

I think your DW was pretty clear, and under those circumstances, I would respect her wishes. It reminds me of a friend/ former co-worker who was awful with money. She would ask me for financial advice - and then completely ignore it and ended up going through all of her money from the sale...

    Naked Gardening Day 2024

I like - and appreciate- other people who garden. For me however, it's a hard no: - My back hurts bending down to weed; - I don't like bugs or garden snakes; - Grass, pollen, and tree allergies manifest with extreme prejudice during certain times of year; - Sensitive ears (the doggo and...

    Financial Planning for Assisted Living

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

CC fees are not new or a surprise to the restaurant, and I agree these costs were already baked in. IMHO, it would be less obnoxious just to raise the prices on the menu. Many people don't appreciate being "nickeled and dimed to death." I don't hand out my debit card due to security factors.

    Alpha-gal

DH was bitten by a tick a few days ago and went to Urgent Care. The doctor there gave him a prescription to protect against Lyme Disease, but I don't know the extent of any blood tests. That might be something to discuss with his doctor when he comes home. Feel better Bobot!

Use It or Lose It Letter From Credit Card

It's good that you got a warning. One of my cards was closed without warning. It did not have a large limit and was tied to a shopping channel. I had used it occasionally to get benefits associated with the use of the card, i.e. free shipping.
