    Complications after Cataract Surgery

Hi. U.K. poster here, so everything I’m talking about has/is being done under our National Health Service, I’m 67, had cataract surgery on one eye last March, and the other eye last July. The first one took a while to settle, some eye strain, headaches etc. The second was no trouble at all...

    Who Uses a VPN

UK poster here. I use ExpressVPN as it has an app that installs on an Amazon Firestick. We travel abroad frequently and this allows to access regular British TV stations. Mrs PD can keep up with her regular programs and this keeps her happy!

The Mystery of Spending Only Dividends Behavior

A quick look shows PF1 going down in 2011 and 2015, as well as the aforementioned 2008, 2018. Not by a lot though....

The Mystery of Spending Only Dividends Behavior

Would this hold true if 4% was being withdrawn each year I wonder?

The Mystery of Spending Only Dividends Behavior

UK poster here. Half of our retirement income comes from dividends from our retirement investments, in our case a diversified portfolio of Investment Trusts, which I believe you guys call closed-end funds. We have funds which invest in UK, International and Private Equities, commercial...

10 months in now for Mrs PD and me. We’re loving every day. It’s great to shopping or run errands when everyone else is at work- this hadn’t occurred to me. We’ve had several wonderful vacations. Admittedly we’ve gone a bit mad this year but will quieten done soon I’m sure &#56832...

    Monaco Bucket List Trip Resolution

We’ve stayed in the Marriott Porte de Monaco hotel, which is really good, and because it’s just in France officially (Monaco starts on the other side of the narrow road, literally) it’s quite inexpensive.

Megacorp Reneges on Retiree Health Care

UK poster here, and I feel for my US friends here who have to worry about healthcare like this in their later years. What I find despicable is that mega corps can change the rules in this way any time they like. We’ve also had changes in pension entitlements etc. as the costs have escalated...

    Pow!Pow!Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow!

Sorry, I don’t see why. It’s a perfectly honest and valid and on topic comment.

    Pow!Pow!Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow!

Sure, we have inner city gangs and drug problems etc. just like every developed country. The difference is that our underworld is not routinely armed with guns (there are exceptions of course) hence shootings are rare and mostly contained within the criminal community. The same is true with...

    Pow!Pow!Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow!

UK poster - don’t want to be controversial, but if you live somewhere where guns are very rare, there are very few shootings.

FIREing on one or two cars? - if you do not consume more than 6K-8K miles a year?

DW doesn’t drive, so no point in having a second car. We live in a major city (Glasgow, Scotland) and can walk to most local amenities or take inexpensive public transport. I will definitely downgrade from my my new-ish Nissan SUV next time around.

    Retirement celebratory splurge?

We retired in April. Our splurge was to throw a big fancy dress party for family and friends at a local restaurant. It was a hoot! The next week we took a trip to New York (from Scotland) and Mrs PD had a shopping visit to Tiffany, Fifth Avenue. Helluva shop!

    Definition: A good day

A good day is one with a clear diary. No appointments, trips, visits, and of course no work! The day is an empty canvas which I can fill howsoever I like. Bliss!
