    Romantic Relationships Post FIRE

I was married for 16 yrs but, my wife passed away awhile back from cancer. I had 3 children to take care of. For better or worse I had a bunch of married women in the town going after me. One of them offered me $1M. I admit that I was no catch. In any case I avoided all that and went with...

anyone pick up golf after avoiding it for years?

I started again, against my better judgement. I was on my high school golf team so I know how to play golf. I had also golfed for years afterwards. I was good but, not great. Anyway, I got tired of the old man "get off my lawn" culture with golf and stopped for a few decades. A few years...

    Kindle fans?

I bought a Paperwhite about 1-2 years ago. I wanted a nice ereader and heard great things about it. I was very disappointed. It was dog slow. It would take seconds to flip the page and downloading a book took forever. It also was slow starting up each time. I just sold it used for a song...

    What's Your Buzz?

I get a hiker’s high hiking up mountains. Good cardio workout with less wear on joints. With 1 artificial hip, I gave up running years ago. I traded miles on the pavement for miles on forest trails. I am not complaining.

Planning my last 20 years, how much to spend. (Part 2)

It depends on a lot of things. Would your retirement budget support a mortgage payment in the cash flow? What rate can you get on the mortgage? How big a nest egg do you want leftover in retirement? We were lucky to have a low mortgage rate, 2.625% fixed with a sizable balance. We have run...

    Taxes on tIRA after death?

I was just thinking … I have my nest egg currently in tIRA funds. I am 68 yo and retired. DW is 4 yrs younger and same with her savings. If we both suddenly pass away in a car crash how does the estate manage the tIRAs? We have 5 children and our will has our assets to be divided equally...

Seeking recommendation for a retirement withdrawal strategy tool

I would take the mortgage and see how the rates go. You will have the option of refinancing if the rates drop. We did that 4 yrs ago ... took on a healthy mortgage on our new home. The rates dropped a few years later and we refinanced at 2.625% fixed. We were fortunate.

    PC security and hacking!

As I am getting older I am more concerned about hackers and my pc, phone, etc security. Hackers are getting more sophisticated each year. We have an Apple MAC and a WIN10 laptop. The McAfee on the laptop has lapsed so I want to add something to that. Our MAC does not have any security SW...

scanning home photos ... how to organize!?

Digikam looks nice. I will check it out. One thing is I want to organize pics in folders and subfolders that can be read and navigated easily without specific software involved. I plan to share all the pics with other family members, who have all sorts of pcs … MAC and WIN. One sibling is...

scanning home photos ... how to organize!?

I have been using a Canoscan scanner which does really well. I can do four prints, or sides, per scan and it automatically separates and saves them as separate files in a folder. By default it names the files with the date and then an incrementing numeric suffix. I had started to separate...
