11 months out - fighting the OMY urge

With a net worth like that you should have retired already and enjoying life. Your time on earth is not unlimited

    When will the machine stop?

I find it very humerus that so many members here refuse to consider a future financial collapse. Watch some documentaries on the of 2008 "great recession" to realize how close we all came to an economic meltdown. Once the dominoes begin to fall, it will be near impossible to stop. IDK what...

    Going All Cash in 401k

Do what you feel comfortable with. Reading posts here tells me most members here are way more confident in the markets than I am. I slowly went 95% out of the market over the last year. I have run many scenarios and have concluded I don't need to be in the markets anymore. I have no desire to...

Question Concerning Fed and Interest Rates

I totally agree. But it seems the Fed's job now is to keep the stock market up

Between FIRE and 65 paid healthcare options.

My DW is ER at the end of August. We will start ACA coverage in September. We are going to show about $50K in MAGI this year and will get coverage for Aprox $70 a month with a hight deductible plan. Next year we will show less MAGI and will choose a plan for next year in open enrollment. The...

New Social Security study on claiming it too early

Everyone can make their own choice. My DW and I are both going to take SS at 62 (in 3 years) and never give it another thought. Hopefully, the Government won't change the rules "for my own good" and make me wait

    Giving up on internet news

I've stopped watching the national news.I don't want politics 24/7/365.There are other things going on in the world. When something big happens that the media covers, I'll tune in.

    Fired my financial adviser

IMO I'd stay all cash for a little bit to see what this market is going to do. Buy in after the correction is most likely on the horizon. This is just my opinion and I know many here don't think the market will correct anytime soon

ACA guidance wanted. Retiring at the end of the year

My DW is going to retire this fall. I have been out of the workforce for a couple years now. Our plan is for here to retire at the end of October or first part of November. She will be 59 and I will be 60. here is what we are thinking: 1) sign up for ACA after quiting her job during open...

    Overconfidence In Market?

I don't want an argument, but just look at the chart of the history of the DOW. The last 10 years it's shot up like a rocket, no other 10 year period is even close. Just use your eyes. Of course, we are very likely to lose most of that growth in the next couple years anyway.

    Overconfidence In Market?

In 1999 the Dow hit just over 11,000 In 2009 the Dow hit around 10,500..basically a lost decade for growth Now we're hovering around 26,000 (give or take)..a huge run up in the last 10 years, but the run up has flattened out in the last 18 months or so. The last 10 years have be unprecedented in...

    Overconfidence In Market?

Actually, I think some member here need thicker skins. I've noticed time after time when anybody suggests uneasiness of concern of the markets being too high and wanting to get out, they are flamed and ridiculed and basically told they are the one who is wrong. Maybe being on the sideline with...

    Overconfidence In Market?

I Totally agree. I never said in my post anything about those stocks being "SAFE" there is no "safe" stock, I said they paid a good dividend so I will take some risk. I was in several mutual fund and ETF's the past few years, and a majority of the growth from those funds were from FAANG stocks...

    Overconfidence In Market?

I agree with your post, although I suspect many here won't. I'm only 10% in the market, and thats mostly good dividend payers (T, BP, XOM, BMY ect..) I see the markets at near record high, and I see more downside than upside right now. My window of time to be in the market is closing, so I don't...

What's the future of the ACA?

A few weeks ago a Federal judge ruled it unconstitutional. I have not heard another word about it. Like many here, the ACA will (would have?) play a big part in when we retire if we can take advantage of the subsidies. Any guesses on what the future of the ACA?

Will the Market be UP or Down at the Close Monday 12-24-2018?

I don't know when this dumping will stop, but I know there will be one heck of a buying opportunity then
  19. J

would you consider this "dumping" ?

is that pic from your back yard view? That's crazy. Why did they dump it right behind your house? Drag that crap back to their yard.

    Reevaluating your AA?

Ask yourself: How will it feel to have a AA of 80/20 when the dow drops to 18,000 next summer? If somebody is not sleeping now, you haven't seen the worst of it yet by far

Why do folk complain so much when the Stock Market goes down a "Little"?

The problem with this is not everyone has been in the "market" since 2008. Anyone who invested money in the last 15+ months is very likely behind, maybe even significantly behind. The main thing that drove the market in the last few years have been the so called FAANG stocks, and they are now...

Is this the most volatile market in 50 years?

Some of the members here are saying this is a normal market, and no big deal. I disagree, this is the most volatile market that I can remember and I'm 59. Yes, there were occasional big drops before, but I don't ever remember getting up day after day and expecting 300-500 point drops every...
