    Is the FIRE personality lazy

There's a line in Office Space which sums me up perfectly... it says something like "It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care..." .

Does This Count as Early Retirement?

Not really... Instead of getting screwed by the boss... well, I'll let you use your imagination :o

    California Leads the Way

My company started marketing interest only 40yr mortgages because people couldn't qualify with the 30yr or even 2yr arm payments anymore. And we even allow people up to 55% debt to income ratios. It's spooky out there... ::) -Jay

How bad is it (tax-wise) to hold dividend payers in a taxable acct?

Soup, I enjoy your posts and their replies, because you and I have similar goals and risk tolerance. My only concern with this strategy is if tax rates go up (which many believe is almost a certainty) then taxes will eat up any advantages you might gain. The qualified dividend rate of 15% is a...

    Guilt Trips & Other Doubts

I've been made fun of for years for eating PB&J's for lunch 9 out of 10 days at work instead of going out for $10/day. It used to bother me ever so slightly in the beginning... but now I almost enjoy it. When they start making their comments I sorta smile inside knowing they just don't get it...

    Spring is here..........

80 degrees here in FL today. Nice ocean breeze off my back porch, a cold six pack in the frig, hardly a cloud in the sky... too bad I was at work and had to miss it. :'( My desk doesn't even have a window view, which is of the interstate BTW >:( -Jay

    New Commodity Fund

It seems Vanguard is always 3-5yrs behind the curve when it comes to opening useful funds (ie., not another large cap fund-of-funds.) I doubt they will open one before the year 2016. -Jay

Vanguard ... Ever Lost Track of Your Accounts?

I agree that Vanguard can be annoying at times... but with the few hundred $'s a year I'm saving in ER's with them I can stand a little annoying ;) -Jay

    Vanguard Emerging Markets Stock Index

You can also purchase the Emerging Markets ETF (VWO I believe) without the 0.5% purchase fee, but you will pay a brokerage commission.

Vanguard ... Ever Lost Track of Your Accounts?

You're not alone. Many others are having the same problem. Below is a link to the Morningstar boards talking about the same thing. http://socialize.morningstar.com/NewSocialize/Asp/FullConv.asp?forumId=F100000015&convId=163525

    Abolish Pennies

When I was in Australia they don't have pennies and round to the nearest nickel. They also use coins for $1 & $2. The smallest bill is $5. I like this method and say we move toward this in the US. Considering a US $1 only lasts about 6mths, and you see coins from the 1960's all the time, it...

Has anyone told their boss to take this job and shove it?

Although I've only been in the corporate/office setting for 8 years it seems to me that most managers who take their frustrations out on employees either have emotional problems, are just jerks or both. They would vent on you or any other warm body in front of them. I wouldn't take it...

October shaping up to be pretty crappy

Those who are in their 20's and already have built up a good chunk of assets would prefer a flat period rather than a huge drop, thank you very much! ;)

    The FairTax - gaining steam!

I think this is the most important piece of legislation our government has seen in decades (HR 25 I believe.)  This would create a boom in our economy and make the US the tax haven of the world. There is a related site www.fairtax.org which also explains the plan. In short, I think this is...

Accomodation in North East Florida Anyone?

There is an In-Town Suites on the Southside of Jax, on the corner of Beach Blvd & St. John's Bluff Blvd. It's about 10-15 min from the beach as well. -Jay

Anyone ER'd in the St. Augustine Florida Area

I actually live in Jax (about 5 min. from the beach.)  While it has really changed over the last 10 years, and not always for the better, it is still nicer than many of the cities I have been to.  I am looking to move out of Duval county though... probably to Clay county. St. Augustine is also...

If the Custodians Can Live on $2600 - Why Can't I??

I'm not even 30 yet and already called a cheap old b*stard  ;)  My wife & I could live on that salary with no problem assuming health coverage is available through the employer.  I have pretty heavy Rx costs...

    ER overseas

Exactly what I was getting at.  Anything less than $600, and really anything less than $700, will not be on the efficient frontier of comfort...  8)
