    What is your withdrawal rate?

Doesn't anyone more or less wing it??? I know I'll be fine if I spend <2% and probably okay if I spend <4%, and I'm planning to just buy what I want, generally, which is what I've done for the past 20 years, and spent an amount about = 3%. There are always aberrations - kitchen remodel, rental...

Oh, sad. I'd forgotten that the dog who's now gone is my avatar.

    I Quit.

Wow, I feel like your post could have been written by me, if I were more literate. :) I'm having all the same feelings. It's funny but the dog resonates most with me. I started thinking of FIRE ten or more years ago, and have delayed until now. At the garage door, I said, "Goodbye Boy" to my...

    Mental 'readiness' for ER

I joined this forum in 2004. Here I am still waffling. In 2008 I developed major health issues and stayed for the insurance. I'm still "only" 57 but still having trouble getting out!

    Waikiki Hotel

I will be going there in October. I also researched until my head was spinning. Outrigger is undergoing renovation, and the Pink Palace is closed. We ended up choosing the New Otani, so I was very happy to see it recommended here. I finally picked it based on a review in a 5 yr. old Lonely...

    Rest Your Dogs Here! Photos!!

Yeah.... I drifted away. SO is happily ER'ed for the present, and I've found that it makes working so much nicer for me, because I don't have to do all the housekeeping, etc. in addition to working. He's installed a hot tub, and is also busy building an addition to the house. I'm going to keep...

    Orbitz/Cheaptickets: False Advertising?

You might want to look at Yapta.com. I love this site - you put in the flight you want and it tracks it for you and e-mails you if it goes down. I saved over $400 (on two tickets) on our last trip this way. Only rub is it doesn't work on all airlines.

    Eons---And Other Social Networking Sites

I joined Myspace in order to be able to view photos my DIL was posting, but the format - busy backgrounds, flashing icons, sliding menus, etc. - drove me crazy. As well as the actual lack of intelligent discussion. I have made several lifelong friends from the AOL Childless by Choice message...

    Snack "Chips"?

Cheetos are my one guilty pleasure. All those other chips have no appeal at all, but I cannot walk away from a bag of cheetos. I used to reward myself on long boring drives with a bag from the AM PM>

    Current RV Trip

Steve - it sounds GREAT! How many days total will you be on the road? Miles? Gallons of gas? I'd love to read details too. We're off tomorrow on our first RV (rented) trip - to see how we like it. Only 7 days and 500 miles, though. We're just going to make the "North Cascades Loop" circuit.

    Report software quirks here

Sure... I tried to post about it earlier, but -obviously- couldn't. Was too busy/lazy/frustrated to bother trying to PM you. I'm afraid by the time everything's up and running, all the folks who have formed this "community" will have wandered off in bordom or frustration. :(

    Report software quirks here

I'm just trying a test post, because last time I tried to post - Wednesday I think - all I could get was a message saying my post needed to be at least one character. Having typed and lost several posts that were significantly more than one character, I gave up and went away.

    Non retired spouse

Wow, I missed a great thread. Now I'm starting to get worried. SO has five more days to work. Then we will be facing all this fun stuff. But somehow I don't think he'll be like Oldwizard. He's already told his boss that part of the reason he needs time off is so I don't have to do so much...

CNN Money says "Drive your car to death!"

    I buy a new car every 10 years whether I need it or not. I figure I would like to have the variety of owning 7 cars over a lifetime. Age 16-26: 1976 Vega +/- 80,000 mi (year borrowing dad's car) Age 27-37: 1988 Toyota Tercel +/- 65,000 Age 37-46: 1997 Rav4 120,000 Age 47 - ?? 1995 Xterra I...

Yahoo Photos Closing - recommendations for alternatives?

I agree, Brewer - I use Yahoo e-mail, and if it were not for the huge chore of changing my address everywhere, I'd ditch it in a minute. The new Beta stinks, but the old version doesn't work at all on my computer.... But then as Dad always said about free stuff - you get what you pay for.

Yahoo Photos Closing - recommendations for alternatives?

I accidently discovered that Yahoo photos will be closing on 9/20/07. Strangely, there is no notice of this on the Yahoo Photos site itself. But anyway, I have a choice of moving to Flickr, Sutterfly, Photobucket, Snapfish, or KodakPhotos. Anyone who's used these have recommendations...

For women only How to LBYM and stay clothed

I just bought three bras on clearance at Kohls - forget the exact price, but it was under $20 for all three together. But I'm "not too large" so I don't need the industrial strength ones. As to pantyhose, in the winter I wear tights instead of hose for all but the most formal occasions...

What Makes Your Retirement Place the Best?

Yeah, my "dream" retirement is to have one of those trailers like Rich in Tampa just got, and spend November thru January down in the Southwest with our kayaks. I would take a a two-week dive vacation on either side of the snowbirding. By March everything starts growing in the...

What Makes Your Retirement Place the Best?

I want to be Martha in my next life. ;D We think a lot about the "snowbird" life as well, though I think I'd prefer Mexico, Central or South America to Florida or Arizona. It's a subject that requires much research.

What Makes Your Retirement Place the Best?

Kitty - I've only been to the Carribbean side, so I can't comment on your proposed locations, other than I've read a lot about them being popular retirement location for "gringos." I hope you will report back on what you learn, I'd be very interested.
