    Kicks on 66

I was from New York, but I spent two years going to a small college between Springfield and Peoria. Route 66 ran practically through the middle of town. We used to hitchhike up 66 to Peoria to drink beer at the College Inn near Bradley, which would serve underage kids. I guess I qualified for...

    New Doctor, New Rules?

25 years ago, I started taking a statin. Didn’t love it. I went from 10mg daily to 15mg a week, albeit very slowly. We checked the numbers often. They stayed within reasonable bounds. The doc said, “well,I learned something.” Lowest effective dose is what I was after. So far so good. I’m 78...

Getting depressed about illnesses and deaths

It seems to me that you have a choice. You can either fixate on negative things which you can’t for the most part change, or you can attempt to concentrate on what’s good in your life. Which, for most people, is more than they realize. Look at me, I am 78. I’ve had several bouts with very...

    First Paid Job

it was early 60s. I was about 15 maybe. I got a job for him with a local landscaping company who always needed day laborers raking rocks on new construction sites. It was a dollar an hour! Twice as much as I could make anywhere else. All day in the hot sun, lots of blisters on my hands from...

    Mens travel clothing??

I think you’re taking too much. I know because I did the exact same thing. I’m now 78. When I got remarried 16 years ago, my wife and I were lucky enough to pool our resources , and we have taken three trips overseas every year for all 16 years. Plus some assorted stuff domestically. We are...

BFF 0.5 Million In Debt at 79 Has Passed Away

Sorry about your buddy. Sounds like he and his wife are the champions of lousy decision making. That stuff comes back to haunt you if you live long enough. At least in her case. Good luck with it.

So much for nostalgia increasing with age

Bingo. I’m 78 and at the moment, on an Alaska cruise. I had a cancer at 61 that was supposed to kill me. Every day, I wake up, shove my left elbow out, then the right one. If I don’t hit wood, I’m golden.

    Bicycle Safety PSA

MIPS, huh? I’ll get a MIPS helmet, thanks. . Down here in south Florida, I now ride mostly on the sidewalks cuz it has become the land of the 3 D’s: dopey, dim and distracted. You could get killed if you’re not vigilant, and riders do everyday. I’m 78, Getting out of the street is one way to...

High Cholesterol despite correct weight, diet, exercise...What to do?

Cholesterol FWIW, 25 years ago, my doc put me on 5mg daily of Lipitor, my overall number was 235. It brought it all down. I hate taking meds so I played with dosages. For the last 10 years I take 15mg A WEEK. Keeps numbers reasonable. My mom had high cholesterol, it’s hereditary. I’m 78. I eat...

When you retired did you just let compounding to have your account go up

Shitload plus is my goal. I was there a couple of times and then the market tanked, as it tends to do. But overall I’m probably at shitload even right now and aspiring to plus plus. Funny post by the way.

    website creation and hosting?

If you have plenty of time and the inclination, it would probably be fun to learn about it all— for you. If not, do it the way I did. I’m sure there are any number of vendors out there who will provide you with a template for a website. I have a bar band I play in for fun as a retirement...
