If there would be a total collapse of the economy, it can be argued that even gold would not insure your survival. My insurance is in canned goods and ammunition. :)
I can't recall any product being sold HARDER than Medicare Advantage. That should worry anyone who thinks about it. We have been on regulard Medicare with a good supplement for 10 years and would never consider MA.
If you know your layout and room dimensions, you know where the furniture and lamps will probably be placed. Consider putting electric outlets in the floor where appropriate. No lamp cords, no cords for electric reclliners, or many other 110v devices.
We have both a winter home and a summer home and use YouTube TV as our source for "live" TV. Also purchased NFL Sunday Ticket from them, first time ever, and enjoy watching whatever NFL game we want. One benefit from streaming vs. cable is that we can place our TV's anywhere in either house...
As the Internet has grown and developed, sending cards has declined. My guess is that most cards sent today are from "older people". Young people do e-cards if any at all. My great memory (I'm 75) is receiving cards in the 1960's when I was growing up, from people all over the USA - from...
To all of you who sold cars, why were you selling them? I have sold a few cars to private parties (quite a few years ago) and because they were "excess" vehicles. Lately I just trade them to the dealer as a credit on a new purchase. That saves 7% sales tax on the trade price, which for my...
Please, BOTH of you take your packages! Years from now you will wonder why you even had to THINK about whether or not to "grab it and go"! I started 'waiting' for a package at 59 and got tired of waiting, and just went at 62 with no package. Never looked back; should have gone at 60! In 13...
Bottle of Cabernet gets opened at exactly 5:00pm, along with a few munchies. Then dinner about 6:00pm, with hopefully some wine left to go WITH dinner. IF not, we look for one of our 375ml half bottles.
If you buy a lot at Costco, the money back on Executive membership can possibly pay for the annual membership cost. If you buy a lot of things like tires, appliances, hearing aids, wine, USDA Prime beef, TV's, you might benefit from Exec.
Costco is more upscale than Sam's and targets the more affluent shoppers. Quality of merchandise might be a tad better; produce is a bit better than Sam's. Most people choose based on distance to location. We have been with Costco for over 35 years but still belong to Sam's.
Most people do not realize that tires wear-out but also age-out. Driving on 15 year-old tires over 50mph is close to a deathwish. Check the tire manufacturers' websites if you think I'm kidding.
+1. With a desktop in the summer home, a desktop in the winter home, (both 32-inch screens to aid aging eyes) and a laptop for travelling, I can access files from wherever and whenever needed. Certain financial data is carried on a flash drive, although I am not paranoid about security.
I have used Quicken since MS-DOS days, and use it today via their subscription. I consider what I pay money well-spent and get immense value from it. DIfferent strokes.....
8%?
Ramsey claims that an 8% annual withdrawal rate is just fine, because the stock market has appreciated an AVERAGE of 8% annually for the last 50 or 75 years. That's a pretty basic assumption except that it's not 8% EVERY year. What happens if there are 5 or 8 years of negative, neutral...
During the Vietnam era we were called both "Remington Rangers" and "Chairborne Rangers". Call me anything as long as I'm typing on a manual Remington rather than an M-16.
Took typing in high school - mom said I had to! Great decision - got drafted into the US Army after college and typing ability landed me a great job in the 1st Cav Division personnel mgmt shop. Might have saved my life, who knows?
Estate planning/wills/trusts are done in the state of residence, pursuant to the laws of that state. If we move to another state before we die, do we need to re-do everything in the new state?
TV's
I have purchased quite a few TV's over the years. Learned years ago that after buying a new one, wished i would have gone with the next bigger size. (Like boaters who have 2-foot-itis). Replaced a 55, looked at a 65. Went with the 75 and glad I did.
Mount Rushmore faces east, so make sure you visit there early in the day so it is "front-lit". 6 days in Yellowstone is still not enough to see it all!
