    $1,000,000 Achievement Unlocked

I do have a girlfriend and she seems to like the simple things in life as well. About half of our dates involve Chick-Fil-A or mall food courts. We only go to a proper sit-down restaurant about once a month.

    $1,000,000 Achievement Unlocked

Budget - I'm single and don't have any kids. I don't own any property and I paid cash for a new car in 2015. I sometimes do additional charitable gifts in the amount of $1,000 to $3,000 per year that aren't shown on the budget. My charitable giving is around 4% to 6% of my income. I also receive...

    $1,000,000 Achievement Unlocked

I'm still looking at 2036 for retirement because I can get a pension that is worth about a third of my salary and get subsidized retiree health benefits for life. If I happen to be offered early retirement, I can retire between 2028 and 2036 with a little smaller pension and the lifetime health...

    Meh at hitting a million

I subtract my CC balance, next month's rent, and next month's church donations from my net worth when I run the numbers each month. I payoff the CC in full each month. I'm still renting so no mortgage yet and I paid cash when I bought my car last year. So, it's $970,000 in cash or invested...

    Meh at hitting a million

I'm an occasional viewer of this board and I think reaching $1 million is at least worth a small celebration. Maybe you can have a nice dinner with your wife. Unfortunately, it's hard to share the excitement with others because too many people will just get jealous or angry when you tell them...

    CLASS OF 2027 to 2037

I decided to update my spreadsheet two days early. My net worth is now at $892,000. This is up $20,000 from January 1st, 2015. I also paid cash for a 2015 Ford Fusion this year to replace an 11 year old car. I'm 36 and looking to retire or semi-retire sometime between 2023 (age 43) and 2036...

Poll:What Dental Floss Do You Use?

I'm using the Reach Access flosser. It's not early-retirement friendly at 15 to 20 cents per floss, but it's very convenient and I hate wrapping floss around my fingers.

Poll:Have you been a Scrooge to reach FIRE ?

I'm in my mid 30's and have been giving 2% to 4% of my income to tax-exempt organizations for the past decade. Most of the money goes to my local church. This year, I had a good opportunity to provide clean drinking water and the gospel message to a village in Africa, so my giving went up to...

    Frustration with 2015

This is how I felt in 2008 when the stock markets tumbled. My net worth was in the $250,000 - $300,000 range and I was in my late 20's at the time. I now check my net worth on a monthly basis and I've learned not to watch CNBC every morning.

Update to Should I Stay or Should I Go (Mil Retention) II

That's awesome. I used to work for the FAA for a few years helping the Air Traffic Controllers in my region prepare for retirement. I'd be more specific, but I would like to maintain a low profile as I'm still a federal employee right now.

    $750,000

So, it's been about 2.5 years since I've posted on here. I closed out 2013 with a net worth of about $750,000 at age 34. My previous milestones were $500,000 in November 2011, and $250,000 in December 2006. Now, before anyone asks how I got to $750,000 so quickly, I should mention that my...

Retire on 100% U.S. Treasury Bonds

So, I just read "Your Money or Your Life" and the final chapter said that the only investment you should own are Long-Term U.S. Treasury Bonds, with a small reserve of money in a money market account. Maybe I'm crazy, but this just seems like bad advice. Have any of you retired with an asset...

Poll:What is the most you've ever spent on a pair of shoes ?

I've been pretty happy with Rockport brand shoes, which are known for their comfort and cost around $100 per pair. For athletic shoes, I pay $50 - $100 on average. If I try to go cheaper than $50 a pair, I usually have pain trying to wear the shoes.
