    Cars percentage of net worth?

I drive a 22 year old Dodge truck with sketchy paint and no head liner daily, I think it would be a rounding error in our net worth.

    The money wasted on crap....

I finally replaced the old shed - the new sheds half empty due to weeding out the old one. Living in a 1000 sq ft home helps as there’s no where to store extra stuff.

    Birdshot in my blueberries!

a blueberry penetrated by birdshot would likely have gone bad while on the bush, unless it happened pretty much the day of harvest. Squeeze the shot with pliers, smashes flat its lead shot, won't smash then its probably a steel ball bearing.

    (Venting) About Family

As university employees my wife and I went to student parties pretty often (we weren't far out of college ourselves) and our daughter would be the only child there - however this mean't she knew how to mix drinks by about age 10. We're lucky that both our close families get along with no...

What have you read recently? 2009 -2020

Confederate Arsenals, Laboratories, and Ordnance Depots, V.1, 2, and 3. Not light reading and probably more detail on the subject than I'll ever need.

    Retail Store Closings

Craftsmen lifetime warranty tools and Craftsman one year warranty tools are separate manufacturers with the latter made in China. Or so I've been told, haven't researched it myself.

    RV---Buyers Remorse?

Growing up we always had a truck and travel trailer, dad didn't want an engine setting unused. Plus the tow vehicle can be used without disturbing camp.

    Sleep With Spouse or Separate?

Same bed for 30 years - me, her, plus 1-4 cats. If one of us is sick we move to the recliner. And the fan must be running.

I'm doomed. My doorbell rang tonight

Last year I was accosted outside the grocery store by the Girl Scouts. I purchased a case of Thin Mints in self defense.

What to do with portfolio when pension covers expenses.

I expect my wife's fixed pension plus both our SS to initially meet our cash flow needs in retirement, thus our portfolio will provide the COLA for the fixed pension plus a reserve for emergencies and large purchases. Eventually RMD's will force money out of deferred accounts and into taxable...

    new cars are weird

ignition switch in the dashboard and the high beam switch on the floorboard. ' Also 3 speed on the column (maybe with fluid drive). I've explained to my college student employees that push button start has been around a long time :)

    My High School Annual

I have Jr.HS and HS yearbooks, look at them once a year. No one in my class I really keep up with and there is a class website that updates occasionally.

Hot tub report-after one year of ownership

We had a hot tub for 7 years, upkeep was minimal - changed the water about 3 times a year, kept the bromine floater filled, kept the cover on when not in use. I preferred about 100 degrees. I might put a smaller 2 person tub in some day.

    Am I understanding SWR correctly?

The historical 4% SWR was reduced to about 3% net by taxes. The historical 4% SWR is only proper for someone retiring expecting 25-30 years of spending, retiring much earlier or later changes the withdrawal rate.

Do you rely on a non-zero 'real' return to make it thru retirement?

I've always assumed a 0% net real return during retirement after inflation, fund costs, volatility, adding bonds, badly timed withdrawals, and taxes. What I start with is what I have in real terms. Simplifies the math.

    Non-COLA Pension impact on SWR

Assuming you desire inflation adjusted withdrawals and noting most studies suggest a minimum 40% in equities - Fixed pensions should be included in your portfolio value as the portfolio provides the inflation offsetting growth. Cola'd pensions need not be included since they are inflation...

    Withdrawal Rates

During your working years you have a j-b that ties up your time, plus for most people their 20's are when they get married and start a family, which means your money is spent on kid things. Few people start serious investing until their 30's. Delayed gratification is a necessity during some...

    Non-COLA Pension impact on SWR

'SWR for spending pension only: $50,000 / $1,796,254 = 2.8%' should this not be $50,000/$796254 = 6.2% for pension value only. You've mixed together withdrawals from the portfolio & pension value with cash flow within the pension, double counting the pension cash flow which is...
