    Credit Card Rewards for CY20

Did the same thing last year with the Sapphire Reserve for my wife and I. This year I just got the Amex Platinum. In our case we are a military family and the card companies do not charge us any type of fees. It essentially free money.

Putting a value on Military Retirement

It is also useful to identify how much staying an extra year and increasing the pension amount is truly worth.

    Military retirees?

The timeline is essentially the same in the AF. It is a conundrum that I have definitely considered and don't particularly have a good answer. Gotta love service commitments :( We have an option to opt out of promotion consideration but who really wants to do that...

    Military retirees?

Not retired yet but ever so near the goal. Currently an E-8 at 18.5 years of service in the AF. I really don't know how long I will stay in but I think until 22 or 23 years. Really depends on if I am having fun and how the market does over the next few years. I have been planning to at least be...

Going all in, anybody with me?

I am not certain how my comment could be considered as a smart ass comment. I just pointed out that their are plenty of places you can live for $36K/year quiet well and gave an example. I don't know if I would consider Warner Robins the outback. Many on this forum are engineers and it is a...

    AAPL after hours!

I have an unlocked Huawei personal phone which I purchased from Amazon at $199. I also always have my work phone on me which is an iPhone Xr. Completely my opinion but I find that I actually use the Huawei more often. It does the same exact things as the iphone but the battery seems to last longer.

Only most of fly over country and the south. Plenty of very nice places an individual could purchase with a mortgage + escrow for under $1K/month. Example...

    Advice for Sister in Law

Here is another possibility that I really didn't seem mentioned. Have the SIL move to a cheaper part of the country and purchase a small retirement home in cash with the $100K. She then will have her $1,300 SS income for everyday living. Obviously this is a very tight budget but is feasible...

    Govt shut down

I would argue that the 1.3 million active duty military, whose pay will be delayed, suffer the most.

    Allocation Thoughts

63% is in a taxable account and the rest is within Roth IRA's and the TSP. I've always, probably erroneously, duplicated the investments across the accounts. My thinking in the past was that while I take a tax hit from having some bonds in a taxable account I also grow my tax advantaged...

    Allocation Thoughts

Over the last few weeks I have been thinking about my portfolio allocation. I have had a slice and dice ETF portfolio for at least the last decade and have been thinking about moving to an all in one mutual fund or perhaps two. The slice and dice portfolio doesn't seem to do any better than an...

What is your mutual fund breakdown?

Interesting, the average age of this forum is much higher than I suspected. I suppose I am just an odd ball having been here since my mid 20's. Currently at 73.56/23.67/2.77 with a target of 74/26/0 at 36 years old. Really need to rebalance and spend some of the cash but the market just seems...

    Yahoo Quote not working

I had some more time this morning to play with this and came up with a solution similar to the discontinued Yahoo quotes. This is more complicated in that it it runs an SQL query on your publicly shared Google Sheet. The Google Sheet will update the quotes using googles built in finance...

    Yahoo Quote not working

So, a little more complicated than the yahoo finance method but still automated. I will need to verify tomorrow, when the market is open, that it does automatically update. Create a google sheet that has the tickers and quotes which you are interested in. Then publish that sheet so anyone with...

    Yahoo Quote not working

Yeah I was thinking that but I prefer pressing ctrl alt and F9 to update. I think I might have found a work around by linking my excel product to a google sheet that auto updates quotes. If it works i'll post the information here.

    Military pension question

As others are stated is pension would not be ~120K but more like $100K at the very most as a Col. Of course that is assuming he did 30 years in the military. One thing I didn't see mentioned is Tricare. By marrying him she will essentially gain extremely cheap healthcare for life among other...

9% expected to cut their cable this year

Got rid of cable/live TV back in 2008. No reason to have cable when you can stream anything you want at any time. Even if we had cable I doubt we would use it. Why not watch what you want, when you want, with no commercials?
