    Buying into partnership

Re- taxable health insurance to more than 2% shareholder. The health insurance is reported as income, but further down the list on page 1 of the tax return is a deduction for self employed health insurance so the end result is zero.

We use Vanguard. The administration site is as easy to navigate as the regular Vanguard site. Each fund you select is subject to $25/yr admin fee (we are using the Target funds). I usually pay from the Company for the deduction and avoid having them take from the retirement accounts.

    How much Term Life??

A few of you mentioned the history of family members playing a role in the policies. How did the insurance companies find out about them? I'm assuming through a questionaire... Do you have to tell? I'm getting ready to increase our insurance and would prefer to not let anyone know my dad and his...

    simple ira and tira

My husband and I have a Simple IRA setup through his Scorp. He has 1 employee who does not participate so we don't have to match his 3%. Obiviously, we choose to match 3% vs giving everyone 2%. I work very minimal there and have a salary of approx. $10500 last year with everything being diverted...

    Long Time Lurker

Actually, the match goes into the traditional 401k portion to be taxed upon withdrawl. Since we aren't eligible for the Roth IRA, I have 1/3 ($5000) allocated towards the Roth 401k and the remainder to the traditional 401k. I think the Roth will give you alot of options later. Robin

    calculation help

I've searched high and low for a calculator to give me the an idea of how much I need to save for early retirement. I'm kind of working backwards from the typical calculators. Specifically I would like to know how much to save monthly/ yearly for 1 million in 13 years w/ 8% return, starting out...

    Anyone a M* xray expert?

I'm just trying to use the morningstar xray function. I'm trying to tinker w/ my asset allocation and would like to see what happens if I were to trade funds. Does anyone know if you can do this w/o re-entering all the holdings? Robin

AMT is getting too close .... Help

Have you run the numbers w/ different state witholding numbers (itemized deductions)? Last year I was able to, barely, avoid AMT by stopping our state withholdings. I did a tax projection in November. Unfortunately, we will probably fall into it this year unless our fearless leaders change the...

    HSA & young children

I'm interested in HSA, but I wonder if I should hold off for a few more years because of our children. We have a 2 year old and a 5 year old. In thinking about the past year, I would guess that we visited the doctor about 1/ month, mostly due to the younger one w/ ear infections. The older one...

    Hello from aspiring FIRE newby!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have had my eye on the Star fund before, but was turned off by the high amount of bonds - 40%. In taking a second look, it's 10 yr performace is alot better than I would have expected w/ the bond inclusion. I was also looking into increasing my exposure to Foreign...

    Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)

(edit) there's more to it actually.  The transactions and receipts i'd have to keep up with would be something done outside of work.  Also, i wouldnt risk doing my 1040 at work! You don't have to do anything with your 1040. The FSA is recorded & adjusted directly on your W-2 similar to...
