    Luggage

I bought a Maxlite for a Scandinavian Air flight. I called them and the guy said the very minor extra height (~1/2 inch) should not be a problem. We will be using one check-in and that carry-on. This is for a 1 month Europe trip. Weight is the real issue for ground travel. For an old guy...

    Advice needed

I think your best bet is to immediately go with your 50/50 allocation. There will always be uncertainty in the markets and that is why prices get set second to second as people try to balance out the latest ideas and events.

Diaries, Journals, Logs - do you keep them, and why and how?

I like to do sketch journaling, especially on trips. Takes a lot longer then photos with my iPhone but it is kind of relaxing and I do sit down. This really creates a strong memory as you are looking at the scene for maybe an hour. DW also likes to do this watercolor sketching. Last summer...

    Poll: What generation are you?

I'm not sure organized religion has declined. We now have organized political religion, organized environmental religion, organized health religion, etc. :) The computer revolution has been going on for decades and yes it has now become available to the consumer in ever more abundance since...

    Poll: What generation are you?

I don't recall so many responses in polls of the past. 350 so far.

    Corsi–Rosenthal Box (Air Purifier)

When we've had smoke due to local fires (brief and scary) we have run the AC which goes through our furnace filter.

    AI as an Investor Assistant

I recently took a look at RSP vs SPY. For this I use Morningstar charts which include dividends (Yahoo charts do not I believe). Anyway I will stick with SPY (actually VOO).

    Corsi–Rosenthal Box (Air Purifier)

If someone can convince me that these things actually work and are needed then I'd be interested. When I looked into these things it seemed to me that I should just go with my current unfiltered air. It's gotten me this far at 76. :)

    Iphone 15

My iPhone 10 to 15 transfer worked out OK. Some relatively minor work was necessary over the next week or two. I can't remember what all that was about. Another thought is to have the transfer done at the Apple Store if one is near you. Maybe I will do that the next time around as I don't...

    Fixed income strategies

Once you have a Roth dollar it is a matter of what the returns will be without considering taxes. Yes you have paid up front but that dollar is yours now and no tax consequences apply to whatever investment you choose.

    Fixed income strategies

Assume you are talking about tIRA's as Roth's you get to keep tax free. In that case many retirees are in a very low tax situation. I am because my taxes are determined by SS and RMD's and pretty low for Federal and State is almost zero as SS not taxed. Plus one does not necessarily hold...

Yes, my TIPS are in tIRA and Roth Ira accounts.

    Fixed income strategies

TIPS ETFs buy these bonds as money comes into the fund in some set strategy. If real rates are low then they will be buyers and if real rates move up as in 2022 then they will suffer along with other buyers who bought at low rates. You may see articles written about how bad TIPS ETFs performed...

    Poll: What generation are you?

Interesting that you should mention this. I'm in the early BB range (born 1948). I did hear some stories of the Great Depression and looked at old black/white photos of my parents in those years including WW2. One photo was of my Dad in his teens leaning against an the outside window area of...

Not pointing to any one post mind you. My case is ... well a little bit foggy too.

    Fixed income strategies

Yes, I was just wondering if the strategy included such a thought process. For instance, if the person were 75 and had long dated CD's (how far out I don't know) then that would be a bit painful. In general if one has bought at reasonable historic real bond rates like now then a sudden move up...

    Poll: What generation are you?

I like your take. I'm still trying to identify with those historical ancients but there is only a one way discussion :( . Are we Americans too narrow minded? Do we understand the flows of time and evolution?

    Poll: What generation are you?

"Identify with" ... what does it mean? IMO we should all try to associate and have a good conversation with all age groups. Now it might happen that they do not feel the same need to converse. That can be disappointing. Oh well.

    Fixed income strategies

Like many investors I have a difficult time deciding on the level of risk to take i.e. first on the AA and then on the level of risk within the categories of stocks/bonds/cash. However, I believe my level of risk will get me through the worst of times like those starting after 1929 or 1966...

    Poll: What generation are you?

There are an awful lot of crazy generalizations in this thread. Classifying groups of people is fraught with difficulties.

    Fixed income strategies

If we have a surge in inflation from the current 3% or so, isn't your tIRA with 85% brokered CD's a bit risky? Or do you have a strategy (ladder, etc.) to cover that risk? Probably you do as 2022 was certainly a wake up call for many. Actually in my switch plan for the non-inflation adjusted...
