Talkin' Cheap on the TODAY Show

Do you ever research how many people leave the USA to be able to live as a cheapskate?

    Do people actually retire early?

Come visit me, but as a cheapskate, you probably wouldn't. I retired at 35 and am 38 now, so far so good. I had to come to Eastern Europe to pull it off. If I was still in the USA, I'd be workin' for sure.

    World Cup starts tomorrow!

Was a great football match to watch (I caught it midway through the first half). Germany was on fire. Great intensity from the German side, never let up a bit even to the last second. Been a great World Cup to watch so far and I'm sure will be just as great to the end.

    Bad decision?

No. Buy a car you can pay cash for and retire at 45 instead of 59. Then as a 45 year old *XEER (extra early early retire), you'll be able to pay cash for your even newer BMW then. Don't take a loan out to pay for something that depreciates! *- I claim XEER (extra early early retire) as my...

    Alternative to soldering

Done! I heated up a small nail on the stove until it was red hot and then quickly placed it against the wire/solder points and they melted right together. In retrospect, I didn't need an alternative to solder, but an alternative to a soldering gun! Thanks again travelover.

    Alternative to soldering

Clever idea. I don't have a propane torch, but I do have a gas stove in the kitchen. I could heat a nail using that flame. Thanks for the idea!!!

    Alternative to soldering

No Radio Shacks this side of the Atlantic, but maybe I can find something like that here, I'll just have to do some more looking. Thanks.

    Retiring to balmy Belarus

Yup, I'm still here in Tallinn and very happy indeed. No plans to ever move anywhere else (well, maybe the suburbs). Estonia and Belarus are two totally different ballgames though. Estonia is a free, democratic, fiscally responsible European Union / NATO member with low crime, low...

    Alternative to soldering

I inadvertently broke two wires off a tiny circuit board that were soldered in place. I don't own a soldering gun + accessories and priced them at the hardware store, but it would be very expensive for me to buy all the equipment to use just one time. I don't know anyone with soldering...

More hardship for North Korea--new currency

Not arguing your overall point at all and am clearly totally on board with the anti-communism thing, but I have been under the impression that many (most?) farmers in the US can only manage to stay in business with government subsidies (ie. large scale farming isn't profitable). "The United...

    For you Windows users...

After I installed it today, I just get a screen saying it's down for maintenance and will be back shortly. Been like that all day. So now I have another useless piece of software on my computer I have to remove. Great.

How can I lock the elevator to my new condo?

If the outer doors are set to automatically open and you force them to remain closed, you might cause a dangerous situation. Maybe these are better places to post your question? elevatorforum :: Index TalkLifts :: Forums Elevators Lifts

    Dental Implants?

I have 2 implants holding a 4 tooth bridge installed 19 years ago and I've had no problems at all. Best thing since real teeth, maybe better.

12 ROV feeds of them working on the pipe. You don't see as much from that single BP feed published first. Pipe was cut off and now it's flowing up unrestricted. Waiting for the cap to come. Good way to waste a lot of time watching these. bp feeds

I'm curious about why the blowout preventer didn't work. I haven't heard any details on how it failed or why. Has a blowout preventer ever actually been triggered by an event before? Do they actually really work at all? Are all drilling rigs in danger of the same thing happening? These...
