    Anyone live near Brownsville, TX?

Harlingen, TX here. We have been coming to this area for 12 years, in the winter. In 2019, we bought a home here. We planned to travel in the summer (RV) and winter here. 2020 changed that. We have been here since October, 2019. But, we are getting ready to travel in 2021. Ya, it's hot...

    Umbrella premium tripled!

2020 was our first year with Geico. Our 1mil umbrella policy with Geico went up 34% from 2020 to 2021. No claims, same vehicles and home as the year before. No rentals. I didn't renew.

    Any RV retirees out there?

We retired and sold our house in 2006. Traveled the country in our RV and parts of the world for 13 years. DW had never camped before, said she would do it for 2 years. We wouldn't trade our time RVing. So many memories, and we have almost 25k pictures to show we have been there...

Adding umbrella insurance cost me $6,720 of play money

We have our truck, RV and umbrella policy with the same company. For 2021, the truck and RV went up 1.56% from 2020 rates. We have homeowners insurance with another company, and a barely used motorcycle with a third company that I feel some loyalty toward. But the umbrella policy went up 34.11%...

Our school district just announced it would be 100% online in the fall.

It's not really about getting schools reopened, is it? How much difference is it going to make for the kids if schools don't reopen this school year? Will a year really make much difference? It's about the parents. Schools provide childcare. With the schools closed, how will parents find child...

Credit Karma Free to File Tax Returns - Anyone using?

I used it for 2017 and 2018 federal taxes. I confirmed the numbers with a pay online tax program that I never completed. My taxes are not complicated.

What did you do today? - 2020 version

I replaced the sink in my bathroom with a vitreous china sink that fit in the same hole, but had a wider lip. I should have put in a new faucet, and replace the pop-up drain. New sink has an overflow liner, I didn't realize it was a different type of drain. I may change that out soon...

    How many RVers here?

Oh, ya. Prices are up since 2006. In my spreadsheet, I give every month a $ goal, and also have a yearly cost goal. 2006-2010, the goal was under $600 a month. In 2010, raised the goal to $750 a month. In 2018, raised the goal to $1000 per month. Sounds like big jumps, but over the...

    How many RVers here?

Yes, in the summer, we stay one place often for a week, and at least once for a month. We have tried a few places for the winter (Florida, Arizona, Texas) and enjoy far south Texas the most. Now, it feels like home.

13 year full-time RVers. Last spring, we bought a winter place in the RGV, since we have been going there nearly every winter. It needs some work. We plan to spend 6 months in the RGV, and 6 months traveling in our RV. More or less...... We left Texas July 1, and are in the Colorado...

    Fix or buy new car

I keep cars for a long time. A car I bought in 1977, was my main car till I sold it in 1991. Just traded in a truck I bought new in 2006, 13 years and 229,000 hard miles. My rule- Time to get another car when the same problem needs fixed a second time. With some cars, that has happened in...

New Car - Pay Cash or Finance?

We just bought a 2019 Ford F250 diesel. Wow. I've been driving a 2005 F350 for 228,000 miles. The electronics on this thing are unbelievable. And the diesel is so quiet...wow again. Cash, rebates and trade in for 2/3 of the price, financed the remainder. Financed it for 6 years, but...

    Monaco Bucket List Trip Resolution

Monaco Formula 1 race is on May 26 this year. It's a street course through the main parts of Monaco. They begin blocking roads and setting up the track, repaving some places a couple weeks ahead of the race. Hotel prices go even higher. Traffic is bad. On the other hand, there are some...

    RV purchases and storage

It really helps if you can DIY. Warranty repairs almost always take too long, and may require multiple trips. And, out of town dealers often will not do warranty work on an RV they didn't sell you. That's the bad news. Good news- there is so much info on the internet. Whatever problem...

    Help on medicare

Medicare plans have to meet minimum guidelines. But, an insurance company (or Employer) can sweeten the plan, and still meet the minimum. Probably higher premiums, too.

    Help on medicare

At one time, I looked forward to Medicare. It seemed simple after dealing with Insurance Companies for 45+ years. And then I started looking at it. Pre-existing conditions matter there. Changing plans will be difficult after the first year of eligibility. Few people over 65 don't have...
