Has anyone tried to rollover funds from a 529 to a Roth IRA yet?

My grandchild has 529 plan funds with the Oregon College Savings program. THEY have a form to fill out that will send your funds to your Roth IRA custodian after you have the Roth IRA set up.

are HVAC maintenance plans worth it?

We bought a 10 year maintenance contract with our “big name” HVAC replacement system 3 years ago for $900. Two years in, we noticed the house wasn’t cooling correctly. The techs came out and found the coil assembly to be leaking. The entire replacement would have cost $3,500 but it was fully...

Part-time Jobs in Retirement in the IT field

After retirement in 2005, I did some part time IT work. My specialty was hardware, software, and networking support for home users and small businesses. I was appalled at some of the poor working conditions I had to navigate in order to get my jobs done. Some equipment was located in the...

Thanks for all the specific things I learned about here

I learned about the “72t” section of the U.S. tax code that allowed me to access a small portion of my IRA before I was 59 1/2, PENALTY FREE. Others on this site pointed out 72t.net as a good place to begin my research.

    Health Insurance Premium Incease

My price tag was more than 100% higher to insure just me vs. what it was to insure me and wife last year with similar silver plan. I don't understand the logic behind that one.

    Cyst removal

I just had a cyst removed from my scalp - under my hair. I walked into the Dr expecting an incision, but instead got it frozen. Just a dab of some super freezing substance using a q-tip on the exterior of the cyst. A couple weeks later it dried up, scabbed, and fell off on it's own. Very...

    Inguinal Hernia

I was diagnosed with this inguinal hernia by my family dr. about 10 years ago. He didn't bring it up. I had asked what is causing the slight bulge below my abdomen. He said no surgery was necessary at that time... until there was pain or discomfort. The recommendation was to just be careful...

    An Email Hack

Several years ago I was on a cruise with my parents. My Dad was right in front of me when I received a message from his iPhone. It said, "you are an a$$hole". This came from one of his web mail accounts - maybe gmail. It was funny at the time.

    One car or two?

I'm considering the same thing. We really like my wife's '13 Nissan Rogue. We are thinking of trading in both cars (mine is '09 Nissan Altima) and getting a newer Nissan Rogue - maybe with a few more luxury features. My Altima just sits in the garage most days. The car has been paid off but...

How long do you like to be away from home?

I don't "like" to be away from home at all. For some reason... I'm just not comfortable anywhere else. I can't totally relax and I'm a little bit of a germaphobe - which doesn't help. Besides.... I have all my creature comforts right here! I take several small vacations each year (up to 4...

Need advice to get my lawn in shape

I fix bare spots on my lawn every year. It's pretty simple... 1) Rake out whatever remains in the bare spot (thatch, weeds, etc) 2) Sprinkle on a very thin layer of good soil (the kind you find in your nursery) 3) Cover the area generously with grass seed. 4) Sprinkle on another very thin layer...

I've run my elliptical machine into the ground. I'm going to replace it with a new one. I'm not sure how I can get rid of it though... it's large, heavy, and broken! I can't just place at the curb for the garbage truck. How can I get rid of it?
