    Do you have a double?

Three "double" occurances: 1) We saw my wife's sister that morning and agreed to meet her at the fair. We ran into her double at the fair first. My wife kept calling her name without response and getting increasingly upset until I was able to get her to look at the girl's shoes..the only item...

    Bad news for America travelers

This really annoys me. Some version of psuedo security. I presume they are checking everyone's shoes due to the goofball that tried to have a bomb in his shoes and (unsuccessfully) detonate it. So if this makes sense, if some bomber sews a bomb into his pants, will they make everyone drop...

    Today is Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Never been able to hug a squirrel. They'll occasionally accept a peanut from me but that's about it.

What triggered you to retire early?

After a 22 year career at Megacorp, they moved all of the division's work to asia and laid everyone off. I took a job with a very small company and everything was fine until a management change caused everything to turn sour as a working environment. I quit the job for health reasons (to get a...

    Chase canceled my credit card

It can cause a ripple effect. There was a local news story of a lady that had her limit lowered by a credit card. (No payment issues, the change was initiated by the company) This dropped her credit score a few points which triggered her other credit card company (BAC) to jump her interest rate...

    Burial at Sea

Well. since you asked for honest feedback, I would never want to deal with anyone in the funeral business who had off the charts anger management issues indicated by calling everyone in a community names, in just their second post. Better hire someone as customer interface. Soon.

Eat that frog - the movie - inspirational.

Great link! I sent it to my son in college who's facing paper and project deadlines this week and finals next week. I have told him to keep repeating to himself "Just two more weeks! Just two more weeks!" He has more than one frog (or toad) to "eat" each day. (Helps me enjoy retirement...even in...

Mighty old marijuana stash~2700 years old!!

Guess it explains why there aren't surviving blond, blue eyed causian hippies of ancient descent in China today...too stoned to defend themselves and too stoned to care. :)

    Bank Stocks

Tough situation and tough questions. I was/am very heavy in USB. Sold half at $36 which was good. Used it to buy GE and Pfizer which wasn't so good. So I'm going through the shouldas as well..shoulda sold all of USB and held cash. Why are the financials being driven down so hard?? Are we...

Who here is getting close to capitulation? (Or how much more can you stomach?)

If I had lost a 10th through gambling of what I am down in the market, I would consider myself a gambling addict and find a clinic to check myself into. yet this is considered "investing" and so much more respectable! I can see myself standing in front of a group of folks... Hello, I'm...

    Bail out U.S. automakers?

These are companies that have been run into the ground by poor management and agressive, short-sighted unions. A bailout should require clear plans for the future and, I believe, de-unionization with big changes in wages and benefits, dropping them to more in line with the rest of the country...

What is Your Method of Tracking Your Portfolio(s)?

Quicken and Excel. Quicken for the big picture on net worth tracking and daily budgeting. Excel for tracking dividend income and big expenditure savings..taxes, son's college, house repairs, etc. The portfolio is fairly simple so don't need a major tool for that.

    restless legs syndrome

I had RLS as a symptom of advanced kidney disease. It was always in the evening time. A very unpleasant sensation. It has completely gone away after the kidney transplant (no, that's not a recomendation). Interestingly they have had me on a magnesium supplement following the transplant so I...

    Online Security

I use my own computer (laptop) with internet access via a Verizon aircard (will not use wifi for secure transactions) and have almost all of my financial stuff with Etrade set up with a security key (gives a 6 digit number that changes about once per minute and is required for logins). Perhaps...

    Behavioral Economics: Buying Candy Poll

Being a chocoholic I'd go for the kisses in scenario 1 and parcel them out over time. In scenario 2, I'd take as many of the freebies as possible, set some aside for future consumption, then go sell the rest at a penny a piece and come back and buy truffles.
