    Naked Gardening Day 2024

If I were to take part in this, I'd water flowers in our front yard naked where I can only be seen from the sky. But since we have a tick infestation, I think I'll pass

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Planting bed cleanup. Primed sprinkling system, fired it up. One leak. Went to hardware store for parts. Fixed it. Used sprinkling system as source to pressure wash stone steps to lower level and deck. Got patio furniture out of garage, pressure washed and put it on deck. Cleaned garage. Went to...

    What We're Making

Thanks Fotodog. Yes they are brass but they are 5/16" rivets. Not sure if I like them, but they are what are normally used with that knife blade. I like my knife handle a little fatter, and the rivet pieces won't grab each other unless the knife handle thickness is 3/4" or less. Brass sands as...

This weather is awful - 2024 to ?

Bil2 in northern Mo is on a warning now but may be ending, and Sil1 in western Illinois is under a watch. Bil2 had 0.6” rain in 10 minutes. I’ll be following this for a while to see if north central Illinois gets this weather. I hate them as well.

Forum Update - We're back! Ask your questions here.

Yes - that's where I tried it. I'm in 2 or 3 other forums like ER's new setup. I have similar issues with at least 1 of them. Not a big deal. Only presents a problem when you want to post a pic bigger than what the forum software accepts. Then the link works best. Imgur has a few different file...

Forum Update - We're back! Ask your questions here.

Drop image by URL doesn't work with an image generated from Imgur. Just wondering what links will work. Not a big deal. I'll experiment a little. FWIW, I've had similar issues with one other forum with a similar format.

    The Photographers' Corner - 2021 to ?

Checking out some hiking pics on the new system Clear Imgur link shows up until saved. Then a red x This photo dragged and dropped from my computer shows up a tad blurry compared to original on my computer or to the Imgur link.

How much do you spend per month on fitness?

Zero now. And probably zero for the foreseeable future. I bought my dumbbells, treadmill, and e-bike years ago and are all in good shape. I have about 8 pairs of hiking shoes/ boots and running shoes so I won't be needing any of those soon. Same with clothing - have jackets, pants, etc to last a...

shameless ask for praise for walking

When I worked as a land surveyor, I suspect that our surveyors walked about 15 miles a day, 5-6 days a week. All crew members were extremely fit. I was in better shape when I worked as a field surveyor than I was as an office worker training for a marathon. Same thing with postal workers. I...

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Sunday 5 am. Interesting day so far. Awakened at 2 am by DW peering out our bedroom window. Small boat in the lake behind our house shining a spotlight around. Light shining through the bedroom window woke her up. Boat stayed for a few minutes and then went away. Interesting to have a boat out...

    First million is enough

I can see spending 16k a month with an expensive hobby. And I can see $800 a month on groceries. But $700 a month on gas is mind boggling. That’s more than twice my average monthly gasoline bill, and I thought that I drive a lot for a retired person at 20,000 miles per year. Congrats on truly BTD!

Anyone else NOT watch the news?

My DW is a Fox News junkie - has it on the tv most of the time at home and almost all the time while we're driving. So I'm inundated with news when DW is around. But I hardly ever catch any news when I'm by myself.

    First million is enough

95 yo MIL lives on $30k a year which includes $790 per month rent, $435 health insurances. Close to 0 discretionary spending. No car. Seems to me the only way to live cheaper than her is to live in a paid off house with no add’l health insurance and maybe grow your own food . ETA - I forgot...
