    Bid to upgrade flights?

I encountered the bidding for the first time last year on SAS from LAX to Copenhagen. I bid the minimum and won. Just this last March I bid on a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to LAX and won again with the minimum bid. Both were for Premium to Business. You mention roundtrip. In my case...

    First generation iPod Nano recall

Fedex dropped off a 6gen replacement yesterday, 16 days after they received the old one (this includes xmas/new year). Total time from sending request for replacement to arrival of new one: 50 days.

    First generation iPod Nano recall

From what I've gathered they'll send out refurbished units not new ones. I've registered over 3 weeks ago and only received a note from Apple (after a few days) that the process has started. Some people on the Apple forums applied even earlier and are still waiting for the return material...

    Massive earthquake in Japan-tsunami warning

    1) Maybe due to better preparedness/awareness. Don't they also have early warning systems in place and people had at least some time to try to run? 2) That 230,000 is the total for 2004. Thailand had < 10,000 As for the nuclear power stations: There is just too little info to tell what...

High return/High Expense ratio.......? Is it worth it?

Remember LBYM -> don't forget your library. "The Bogleheads' guide to investing" appears to be on the shelf in the Carlsbad library!

    Help with understanding expenses....??

I'll repeat my suggestion to study the Pension2/CalSTRS option. I found it to be the best choice in terms of expense/cost when I was faced with making a selection from the same list of options you have posted elsewhere. Even though it hurts to see the low Vanguard expenses increased by 0.33%...

    Axa Equitable

As mentioned in this thread there is a limited number of funds available via the Pension2 (CalSTRS) plan. Including some core Vanguard funds.

Fringe Benefit Consortium 457b (I am a teacher)

The above seems to indicate that you are putting money into all these funds ?! If that's true please start reading from the suggested reading lists as soon as possible. You really should only have a handful of funds total. Basically just one in each asset class you want to cover.

Which company to go with... 403b

I second this recommendation. Opened an account there for my wife's 403 (b). There is some related info on the 403bwise forums (bwise.ibforums.com) You get access to a limited number of Vanguard funds. Last I checked it was: Vanguard Institutional Index Vanguard Mid-Cap Index Vanguard...

    Will - where do I start ?

Timely thread since a Will is on the top of my 'resolution list' for 2011. I like this suggestion and will follow this approach. The research and studying would be needed even if everything is done by a lawyer since I'd want to at least try to attempt to understand the final paper. I've...

    Seriously annoyed with Quicken!

Another Quicken user who dislikes the hidden subscription model. Just got 2011 at Costco where they have it for $20 after instant rebate this month.

    San Diego tips and tricks

There are many ways to save on tickets for the big parks. This site might be a good start to check on some options. Costco has the "San Diego 3-for-1 Pass" (Seaworld, Zoo, Wild Animal Park) for $99 incl. shipping/handling For some the annual Zoo/Animal park membership works out too. Comes (at...

    Hi from SoCal

Just attempted (quick message flashed with something about approval) my first post in the 'Smart Meter' thread. So I might as well introduce myself a little. I signed up end of 2007 after getting intrigued by the FIRE idea. Learned a lot by just reading and made some adjustments to investments...

    Smart Electric Meters

We just got smart meters a couple of month ago. So far bills seem ok. Data is supposed to be viewable with Google PowerMeter, but the utility still has bugs in their setup and so far data is very sporadic. Sounds like one of these devices might work for what you are looking for.
