    Burger King

Who's denying your right to choose to eat crap? But I do have the right to express my thoughts. This is a forum, not a choir. And on the topic of fast foods, if you can't stand the heat, get INTO the kitchen.Or are YOU too busy labeling others who don't agree with YOUR life-style to try...

    Burger King

Isn't it amazing how people throw away money on fast-food garbage? samclem's post notwithstanding, most of it is overpriced and unhealthful, but as long it's convenient no one gives a s**t.

Maybe Money Does Buy Happiness After All

I don't need a great deal of wealth to make me happy, just enough to keep my personal autonomy. That's something I didn't have when I was working. I am very appreciative of being able to take ER and that my time and my life are now my own. :)

What would you do if you had alzheimer's disease?

Yakers, I don't think we will need to go the PM route, but I do appreciate the offer and your non-judgmental tone. Just for the record I too was a believer in a higher power, but gradually changed my perspective. As a result I have found that making such personal decisions as refusing to die...

What would you do if you had alzheimer's disease?

Shoe, I admire your dedication as a caregiver, but I'm afraid that you have confused knowledge with faith. We "know" for example that 2 + 2 = 4. We can also inductively deduce that the sun will rise tomorrow because there's no scientific evidence to the contrary. But there's no objective...

What would you do if you had alzheimer's disease?

Why do you automatically assume that other people would regard taking care of you in the advanced stages of alzheimer's as a "gift". shoe? Isn't that rather smug? Not everybody has the patience or resources to bear that kind of a burden. Also, you mention that you took over the care of your...

    Hearing Aids

Over all the technology and expertise now are an advance over the days when any snake-oil salesman without proper training could set up shop and sell hearing aids. Such was the case years ago when my father who was hard of hearing bought these devices, none of which were up to the job.

What would you do if you had alzheimer's disease?

If you were in the the early stages of alhzeimer's or dementia and still alert enough to know that these conditions are incurable and irreversible, would you choose to end your life immediately or die slowly instead as the disease progresses?

have a routine - out of house by 9/10am?

Am retired now but like to get up around 5:30, make breakfast for me and DW, who gets up around 6:00. After breakfast, she takes over the chores while I go out, get a newspaper and read it in the plaza across the street. Why get up so early? One is to beat the heat here in this tropical...

    PC Clock Wrong

I dunno. Years ago I heard that problems with a systems clock may signify a much greater computer problem. Have you run a software and hardware diagnostics recently?

Along with the waste it produces.

Are you afraid to look poor?

I second that emotion. Right now I'm sitting in a pair of faded frayed jeans which I also wore to the supermarket a while ago. I'm at that stage of life where I don't have to give a rat's ass about how I appear in a casual situation, such as running an errand. Now going out, say, to a nice...

    Spring has Sprung!

I remember the old days when I lived in Indiana. Mid-March was the usually the first time in the year when you step outdoors without a coat, feel the spring sun, and see the buds on trees and bushes. You knew that winter wasn't over and would get in a few more licks, but there was still that...

    New energy policy for America.

Regardless of the state of the art of new reactors, the problem of disposal of nuclear waste has not yet been solved. An accident involving transportation of this material (such as a train wreck) could cause incalculable loss and lingering radioactivity. On the other hand, when a train or truck...

    New energy policy for America.

Coal miners usually die because of unsafe working conditions. Air pollution laws are designed to restrict emissions. In the event of a nuclear accident, emission laws are usesless. As I stated in my previous post, we need to commit to finding and developing safer energy alternatives than to...

    New energy policy for America.

Don't kid yourself, HFWR. Nuclear technology as a whole is still not that advanced. Let's say for the sake of argument that the design of present day reactors is foolproof. But what about plants that were built before these supposed improvements were developed? How safe are they? And even if...

    New energy policy for America.

Nuclear Power? Does anybody here remember Chernobyl? Or Three Mile Island? Furthermore, there is still no facility available for premanent disposal of radioactive waste. Let's focus instead on conservation and alternate sources such as solar and wind power.

Maybe some converts in the making

Thanks, travelover. In My OP about saving coins each day, I forgot mention Coinstar as another option to turn your coins into more manageable cash.

Children: You did or did not have them poll?

That makes sense as far as the biological imperative to take care of babies goes, Marquette. But what I'm getting at is that the parents who plan to have kids apparently are just thinking in terms of "babies" without thinking ahead that these cute little bundles of joy are not going to stay that...

Children: You did or did not have them poll?

Why is it that so many people (especially women) just love babies? But when was the last time that you heard someone say that they just love teen-agers? BTW this post is not a slam against teens. I recall very well how miserable life can be at that age, but people don't seem to realize that...

Maybe some converts in the making

I know from personal experience how living modestly and cutting out frivolous expenses can make a huge difference. As icing on the cake, dump your loose change into a jar every night. When the jar is full, deposit the funds into your bank account. You'd be suprised how much you can save that way.

    Retirees, are you politically active?

Ah, the "sausage" quotation from Bismark, right? I think the full remark was "Anyone who loves the law and sausage should not see either one being made", or something to that effect.

    Retirees, are you politically active?

For those of you who are retired, now that you have more free time are you now more politically involved than when you were working?
