    What have you read recently?

I liked the Collapsing Empire series as well. Just finished the Pierce Brown Red Rising series. First one was meh, second and third were good. I started the fourth but he should have stopped at a trilogy. Currently reading Downbelow Station by C.J. Cherryh. In some ways it reminds me of...

How much do you spend per month on fitness?

I don't normally share my story but if it will help you I feel compelled to as you are honest about being a bit lost as to how to start and it really is important. Apologies as this will take the thread a little off track. I had been fit in my 30s but gained a lot of weight in my forties due to...

How much do you spend per month on fitness?

It's REALLY important you do something about that.. I don't know your age but if you're 50+ like I am... use it or lose it. Members of my family have ignored that and are doing poorly now. It's not about how much time you have left... it's about how much GOOD time you have left.

    Five Years Retired: Lessons Learned

As someone else who has been on this forum far to long and doesn't post overly much, thanks for this post. It is exactly for information and real world experience like this that I joined in the first place and have been here nearly two decades. I'll be pulling the plug in the next year or two...

How much do you spend per month on fitness?

So far this year I have bought two bikes** (a gravel bike and a 27.5" mtb), a few clothes from Decathlon and one pair of trail running shoes. Maybe $1k in total ? It's unusual for me and I would say that could be amortized over about 5 years so... $200 a year ? I mostly run and bike...

What was your happiest moment today?

Went for a 13km run in the woods, immediately followed by a 15km bike ride on gravel roads. It was cold but good. I've been struggling with on/off hip pain for the last couple of months due to muscular imbalance and today was a good day. Felt great to be pushing it again (pain free) at just...

    Any cheese makers here?

DW makes paneer at home since we love Indian food. It tastes better than store bought but it is time consuming and more expensive so is a rare treat.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Counterpoint. I find the first part a typical Snyder "splosion" fest with poor writing and plot. The acting barely made it watchable. The second part was worse. Far worse. Honestly one of the worst things I've watched in a long time. Not even enjoyable as a popcorn movie. YMMV obviously. I...

    The Blues (music)

I used to like the blues very much. Been to BBs place on Beale in Memphis. Not that I can remember much of that night... that's how good it was..lol Probably my favorite was Muddy Waters. For a modern player still working, look up Seasick Steve. Right now for something similar I tend to...

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Finished it (3 Body Problem). It was still pretty dull.. probably better for people who have waded through the books. The acting from the main group of 5 characters was hit and miss as well.. some of them couldn't carry their part of the plot. Undoubtedly they'll make Season 2. Hopefully it...

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

I found the first book dull and never finished it. So far, 3 episodes in, I feel the same way about the series... Y(SciFi)MV

    Poll: Dune Part 2

It was one of the few times (we saw it in IMAX) where I didn't mind the thunderous theatre sound. It fit the movie and somehow worked better and didn't distract and annoy me like it usually does.

    Poll: Dune Part 2

?? The third movie will supposedly follow the plot of the second book, Dune Messiah since the first two movies completed the plot of the first book.

    Poll: Dune Part 2

Well I thought it was pretty good. Maybe an 8 or 8.5 out of 10 ? Some plot holes near the end and the conclusion felt a bit rushed but otherwise very, very good. And the theatre was packed for our showing. In fact it got so hot in there it felt like you were on Arrakis.. lol

    Poll: Dune Part 2

Three friends and I are going to see it in IMAX on Sunday night. Can't wait. My butt on the other hand is dreading it.

    NYC Boroughs

I know you're going in March and not May but consider biking some of the other boros. It's a great way to see more of the day to day life. We'll be riding the TD 5 boro bike tour in May.. a great way to see the "outer boros" Previously also done the MS bike tour of Manhattan. Pretty cool to...

    Robots - The Next Species?

It's pretty wild they've gone from prototype stage to second Gen in only about 18 months. Soon they will have a robot workforce in the factory. Reminds me of the Next Gen episode where they put Data on trial..

    What's Your Buzz?

I run quite a bit, having picked it up again after a half decade hiatus. And cycling. I enjoy exercising outdoors almost exclusively. As to my vices, see the avatar pic. High quality spirits, only. No cheap hooch, very little wine and almost no beer. And younger women, back in the day.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Oppenheimer is free on Prime here in Canuckistan. Guess they must have gotten the Canadian rights to it. Started watching season 2 of Halo. Watched the first series (which I thought was godawful) and despite not being a video gamer decided to watch the second series for some reason. It's...

how much milk do you drink and what type?

I use about a litre of 1% a week for making cappuchinos in my Keurig. Otherwise, I don't actually drink cow juice. Mind you, I make up for it with my cheese consumption... :)

    Your recent repair? - 2021 to ?

Toilet in the main bathroom had developed an anemic flush. We have very hard water so suspected either scale buildup or (OMG I hope not) a blocked vent pipe. Rather than climb up on the roof in winter here in Soviet Canuckistan I decided to investigate the descaling first instead of the vent...

    Adjustable dumbbells

I have ones exactly the same as the Bowflex ones on this list: https://www.menshealth.com/uk/gym-wear/g33023121/best-adjustable-dumbbells/ My advice ? Buy them off Craigslist or Marketplace or whereever. They're forever up for sale on there... beats retail.
