    Medicare - False Diagnosis ??

Again, where's the fraud? Consider the possibility that the earlier doctor missed the CKD, and it was the new doctor that caught it... eGFR 60 -89 is the beginning of CKD, and something to monitor for sure.

    Condo common area cleaning dilemma

In my HOA we pay an extra fee to have the garbage company come in to get the bins and then to put them back after emptying them.

    Medicare - False Diagnosis ??

This doesn't look like Medicare fraud, but rather not enough time taken to explain the blood work to the patient. Still poor doctoring... According to Dr. Google (and https://www.kidney.org/atoz/content/stages-chronic-kidney-disease-ckd), chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a condition where the...

    Condo common area cleaning dilemma

Agree with all of this. The best way to solve this is to decide to outsource the cleaning and to raise the assessment. Fair to all. It's part of the bargain you agree to living in a condo. I should add that an option would be to start with monthly outside cleaning, and add more visits each...

    So grateful for the ACA

Yes. The ACA allowed me to phase into retirement, and Medicare starts next year. What a gift!

    yosemite national park

One more idea. When you get to the Yosemite entrance they will give you a weekly calendar of events. I have always enjoyed going to a NPS Ranger talk or two. Some of the talks are for kids, and some are better for adults. Also, stop in at the Ansel Adams Gallery in the valley floor. Nice...

    yosemite national park

Once you are in Yosemite be sure to make long the trip (60 minutes at least from Wawona) up to Glacier Point. Then, if you are into hiking, do the hikes out to Taft Point and also the more challenging hike to Sentinel Dome. Check to make sure that the road is open for the season! That's good...

    Costco comments and questions

I would think that digitally comparing the Costco membership account with the name on the credit card being used, and flagging any that don't match, would catch most of these issues. If they did that then most of these issues should be dramatically reduced without much inconvenience for anyone...

Your Experience on a HOA Board

Many condo problems are fixed by raising and keeping the assessments at realistic levels. There is no benefit in trying to keep the assessments too low. Condo assessments are just pass-through payments to utilities, insurance, maintenance and repairs, etc. Just like everyone else, condo...

CVS to start basing drug charges on prices

Call me skeptical but GoodRx is hardly my choice for a hero in this battle against too high prices for generic medications. Consumer Reports says they were sharing their data with Google, Facebook, etc. They claim to have changed this practice…...

CVS to start basing drug charges on prices

Thank you Mark Cuban and Cost Plus Drugs. Thank you Costco too. More to come, I hope . This move was forced on CVS as all the PBMs were marking up some cheap generic drugs to outrageous prices. It could not stand the smell test.

    The Four Pillars Second Edition

I recently read the 2nd edition, or tried to as it's quite long. I ended up mostly reading the summaries at the end of each chapter. Bernstein makes great points. Although the book does a fine job at explaining the '4 pillars,' I think it might be too sophisticated for new investors. A...

California property inheritance laws & taxes

My understanding is that both capital gain step ups and CA Prop. 19 property tax benefits and limits apply generally to family members only. So, I think your sister should consult the attorney who drafted her trust to make sure the future property transfer is done as tax-efficiently as possible.

    new car remotes.

Also, did you know that you can 'turn off' the key fob so that the battery lasts longer and the signal can't be hacked? I do that on my Toyota key fob when I get home for the day. Toyota key fobs have had this feature for a few years. Check your owner's manual on the sequence of buttons to...

    what is cheaper than goodrx

Today's Wall Street Journal (9/11/23) has a nice article on the very high markups that insurance companies and their pharmacy benefit managers are charging for generic drugs. The title of the article (behind paywall) is: "Generic Drugs Should Be Cheap, but Insurers Are Charging Thousands of...

    what is cheaper than goodrx

If it a generic drug you need, check out CostPlusDrugs.com I have a friend saving over $28,000+ a year using them, based on the retail price. Even with the friend's Medicare Rx plan, their cost on that Part D plan would still be MUCH higher as this is a tier 5 specialty drug. As you may not...

    Vanguard Business Accounts?

Look into short-term FDIC insured CDARS CDs and/or IntraFI ICS accounts. (Google it.) You will need to open an additional account at another bank, but it will be worth it to get market rates. This is how my HOA does it. I don't think Vanguard will open a HOA account, but I could be wrong.

    Vanguard IRA Distribution Limitations

I do it online at Vanguard, for both Fed and California withholding. No issues as far as I can tell. As you might not know, withholdings from IRA distributions have the added benefit of meeting any estimated tax obligation for the year, and if you withhold the full obligation before the end...

    Horrendous customer service at Vanguard

My 2 cents: If it's an inherited IRA, no taxes have yet been paid. Thus, distributions, when taken, are fully taxable to the beneficiary as ordinary income. You don't get a basis step-up on regular IRAs. That is sort of like saying the tax basis is zero.

    Horrendous customer service at Vanguard

I wonder if part of the problem here might’ve been that the beneficiaries themselves were not the one initiating the requests. I was recently a beneficiary on an inherited IRA at Vanguard and the transaction was very quickly handled. I was able to simply email a PDF of a death certificate. As...

    Switching Medigap Plans

Be aware--I don't think you can switch from HD-G back to regular G without underwriting. I think this is true even in states with a "birthday rule" such as California. You should check this out before taking this step. If you learn differently, please let us know. I am eagerly waiting for...

    Another Vanguard unhappy story

All this talk about trouble with Vanguard has caught my attention, as I have never had these kind of problems with individual and 401 accounts over 40+ years with Vanguard. (Also have accounts at Schwab and Fidelity. They are all roughly the same to me.) In any case, I spent a few seconds with...
