Nissan transmission repair after warranty ended: Advice needed

I've had Honda cover work outside of warranty for a genuine mechanical failure that wasn't user induced, but it required a call to Honda Corporate America (or whatever the name of their American corporate headquarters is). I'm not sure about Nissan, but I had a friend who had to have their...

    How do you LBYM?

I once lived next to a man who daily would go out with just a wet rag and go over his car. No soap, no fancy Mguires special concoction. Just water and 5 minutes. I have never seen a car looking so clean except at car shows. It was awe inspiring how little effort it took. I haven't washed my...

    How do you LBYM?

I make my own avocado with toast instead of buying it at the trendy bistro downtown. I play video games instead of watch movies, where a $5-60 investment gives me 20-200+ hours of entertainment instead of 90-180 minutes. I have a motorcycle instead of a supercar, which cost 15x less...

    The Obesity Era?

From the study he mentions: Here's more about that study in detail. Ken M Barry, MD. Selling a diet. From his own site: A quote that directly contradicts the results from the same study he's talking about in the video. Dr Jason Fung, who is absolutely selling a diet*, contradicts the...

    Guilt over missed exercise...

I would wonder where the guilt is coming from. If you are so diligent and otherwise get up and about in some form or another all the time, is it a self-regulating thing, where unless you feel some pressure to get back to it, you won't? I tend to feel more sad than guilty if I go for long...

    The Obesity Era?

Ouch. I mean good on him, trying stand up comedy instead of keeping to his field of expertise, but these jokes are just so flat. Oh wait, he's selling a diet, so of course CICO can't be the answer. Hard to fill a book with boring news like that.

Laptop as a primary home computer?

I used a laptop as primary computer, radio, TV, etc for about 12-15 years. Never had an HD fail, but replaced them about every 3-5 years. They ranged from $150 Chromebooks to $1,500 gaming rigs. The gaming rig lasted longest, at least 7 years, and I sold it in good condition when I built my own...

Compound that with the nutritional info only having to be within xx% right, servings listed below X calories can be listed as 0 calories, and other loopholes, it makes a very accurate count difficult.

    The Obesity Era?

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2786923/ That is an interesting read on the attempts and difficulties of standardizing labratory animal diets datingback to the 70s.

    The Obesity Era?

Simple as that. Works for people and animals. Pets are adorable, but they're not precious enough to break the laws of thermodynamics.

Why is the calorie and the body's use of it such an ongoing mystery to so many?

    Millennials will prioritize "necessity spending"

As a Millennial looking for a house and a new car, 4-6% and rising interest rates hardly feel like anything is being given away for free! I also don't see many of my peers interested in housing over renting when it tends to free up so much more money and time away from maintenance and upkeep...

How much do you tip hotel housekeeping?

I'm embarrassed at my ignorance of tipping hotel cleaning staff, but I'll be making up for it at my next hotel stay this week. An added question, I think somewhere along the same lines: if maintenance has to come correct some kind of issue in the room, do you tip them too?

How much cash do you carry ?

I haven't carried cash in my wallet in at least 15 years. There hasn't been a need to, and any place I've been has never offered a reduction in cost for cash over credit. I'd maybe be a lot more willing to carry cash if I could pull out something smaller than $20s at the ATM. $5s and $1s would...

    Your recent repair? 2013 - 2020

The Triumph saga continues. I finally got the electrical issue straightened out, but because they chose a soft foam gasket instead of rubber, it tore getting the airbox housing out, so now I have to wait two weeks to get a replacement. Huzzah.

    Your recent repair? 2013 - 2020

It would be worth asking what they'd charge to air seal the attic from the living volume of the house. Or using dense spray foam insulation on the attic ductwork itself to an R value of 38. Build Science with Joe Lstiburek has some great articles on the why. I'll see if I can find them again.

    Ultraprocessed foods lead to obesity

I think that the caloric density of processed foods is so much greater. There isn't much of any water weight to dilute caloric density while also increasing food volume. It's so much easier to eat more calories of junk food. Solid food anyway. Liquid calories are a different animal altogether...
