Good news, and so glad your wife is home with you and you have a medical team on board for follow up.
Take care.

Just a shot in the dark. Have they mentioned itp? (Immune thrombocytopenia purpura) It is an immune disorder causing low platelet counts, which in turn causes difficulty in blood coagulation.

Bryan,
Prayers for your wife's speedy diagnosis and recovery! I too know of these sudden critical medical situations.
You've had a lot of research to dig though and the strongest probability is in the PD and med reaction but a long shot to consider is any connection to diet soda usage and stroke like symptoms in your wife's case.

Again, hope your wife's medical team is tracking on the answer and solutions!. Best to you both.

Long Term Steroid Use

I'm so sorry to hear of your wife's health troubles. And I know it's hard on you to watch her go through this. My prayers for both of you.

I have been on prednisone since 2010 to help control an auto-immune lung condition. I've been cut down to 10mg a day, but the slack is being taken up with 2000mg of mycophenolate, a steroid sparing drug. (Also used for transplant patients.) It reduces the body's immune system response.

Other than weight gain, which is an ongoing struggle, prednisone has been my friend. I no longer have a rasping wheeze deep in my chest, and my condition has been remarkably stable. But it is a two edged sword, so your wife's doctors will want to decrease her dosage as much as they can while retaining the benefits.

I hope you get the answers you're looking for. Getting a diagnosis is sometimes hard.

Thanks for the tip. The docs have mentioned thrombosis as a major worry; but so far inconclusive about the source of the antiphospholipid antibodies. We're being set up with a rheumatology specialist next. So, likely we will hear about it soon.

Sorry to hear about your wife and best wishes on her recovery. Some to discuss with your doctor if you're so inclined.

Search the study for the word "dizziness" and read in context
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2915499/

Thank you! I read it and see the links to dizzy spells. My wife, btw, does take carbidopa with levodopa. Her doctor is now trying to titrate the dose to see if the dizziness subsides.

Thanks for this idea. I will look into it. My wife is an occasional drinker of Coke Zero, a few times a week when in a cafe or restaurant.

Prednisone was only used when she was in the hospital. They have eliminated the acquired hemophilia diagnosis (thank the heavens!); but not conclusive yet what might be the cause of the coagulant antibodies, alas. She does not do well with uncertainty like this, so we are hoping for an accurate, but a bit speedier, final result and course of treatment.

Best wishes to you as you weather your illness.
