As for flying cars, there's one guy out there who's been promoting his for ~30 years, collecting (IIRC) tens of millions in funding over the years.
If you've ever seen the videos, it looks like he put maybe $100,000 in materials to get it "flying" (IIRC, it can hover, tethered)
