I lived a bit in Texas in the late 60's (Lubbock) and we didn't have scorpions, either. Unfortunately we did have blowing dust/dust devils/tornado's, and the rare tarantula (along with some amarillo’s)...

I have never seen a scorpion in 50 years in Dallas.

I live in a suburb of Dallas. One day last summer I was watching TV and saw something moving on the floor out of the corner of my eye. I looked down and was shocked to see a 3" long scorpion walking leisurely across my living room rug. Its the only one Ive seen here in 30+ years.
