Rails to trails rides

The Miami Valley Bikeways trail network is top notch. Over 300 miles of connected trails in the Dayton, Ohio area. I spent a couple of weeks riding their trails last year. Lots of varied scenery, and the trail surfaces are generally in very good to excellent condition.

For a more urban/suburban trail experience, Pinellas County in Florida has a great trail network. The flagship Pinellas Trail was the third inductee into the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s Rail-Trail Hall of Fame.

I might have an opportunity in the not to distant future to bike from Pittsburgh to Cleveland. Has anyone made that trip?

Virginia Creeper trail: Easy 17 mile downhill ride through the woods from Whitetop VA to Damascus VA. Beautiful ride following rivers, some rapids, and nice meadows.

This year, I plan on doing:
1) the other half of the Creeper (from Abingdon to Damascus), also mostly downhill.......
+1 for the Virginia Creeper Trail. The entire length is 34 miles and has 47 trestles. Awesome!

This is a fun one that I ride, it has a double loop to climb up on a bluff. It also has a beautiful wooden bridge they built to get across the creek near Burnett.

Link to a PDF about that bridge. It is truly a beauty.

+2 on the Virginia Creeper. I’m a novice and had no trouble with the ride. It was in the late summer when we did it and the tree canopy provided plenty of shade.

^^^^. Cool. My brother and I did a few days ride on the C&O towpath once, which was unforgettable, too.
