Saving loads of money on dining out

I never feel bad using a coupon or gift certificate--without it I likely wouldn't have gone there to eat anyway, and they are probably still making a little profit off me. And they hope I'll come back, too, and bring friends :)

I think the most important thing is to tip based on the full price of the meal, not the discounted price.

Indeed.

I have worked food service.

We shamelessly use coupons, but we usually do not eat at expensive places.

There is a popular BBQ place here that advertises in ValPack (or something like ValPack) once a month with a buy one dinner get another of equal or lesser value free, good only Mon-Thu evenings. Just guessing I would say that on any given weeknight at least half of the dining parties are using a coupon. The place is usually crowded. Without the coupon we would probably not go.

In a table-service place we do tip based on the undiscounted price.
