Is there a software program that can check daily prices for items you are looking for. I know there are programs that you can initiate to check several places for a price check on something, but I was wondering if there was a sort of "set it and forget it" program that would do it on it's own?

I'm aware of Pricescan and a few others for checking out the best price, but I thought I heard there was a program or two that do it automatically. Any ideas?

Not sure about any program like that. But while we're wishing, I'd love to see something like this that not only shows the prices, but where the items were manufactured. I'd love to be able to find stuff that isn't made in China.

This may not be exactly what you're looking for but Diapers.com & Soap.com (Quidsi), Amazon.com (which just bought Quidsi), and Netplenish.com all offer a variety of products with "best price" and "cheapest shipping".

You sign up, create a shopping list, and let their "shopgenius" software scour the daily pricing data.* The issue is that they'd like to "auto-replenish" your buys of diapers & dogfood with various customer-loyalty discounts (& free shipping) so that you're not tempted to shop elsewhere.

* I have no idea how us mere consumer mortals tap into this pricing data. I think the resellers are paying for manufacturer's data feeds and updating their own databases.

If you are firefox browser user then there is an add-on called as Camelizer that checks prices on Amazon.com, buy.com and newegg.com Their respective websites are camelcamelcamel.com, camelbuy.com and camelegg.com

These 3 sites do exactly what you want. Setup price that you would like to pay for an item. If the price reaches to your desired price, you get an email or a twitter announce. Give it a try.

Honestly, I would like someone to develop an application for Smartphones that syncs with a website like grocist.com. This application stores all items that you buy. It should also be able to able to blacklist an item so that next time you are in the supermarket and pick up that item, it should show a black listed alert. As you start scanning items in the store, it keeps searching for cheaper options online. Of course, its only good for penny savers and those who are willing to spend (or have) that much time.

Ziggy: What stuff are you looking for in particular? Are you more interested in made in US only or any country except China?
