Canada to Florida

I live in Tallahassee, Capital of Florida in the Panhandle. Very different from Central/Southern Florida. Huge spanish moss covered oaks, canopy roads and 20-30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Great city of approx. 200k. We have two large State universities so the population drops in Summmer months. Due to State Government, our economy has held pretty strong but there are good deals in real estate to be found. Can't speak to the townhouse, gated community scene but I am sure it exists.

There are some horror stories relative to this and one just happened to a Canadian friend of mine. He and his wife come down every fall for six months. Last November, just after arriving, he had chest pains and was taken to the hospital. They did the basics and determined he needed an angiogram. With his health insurance, they had to get permission from Canadian health care to proceed. Canadian officials wanted him to return to Canada for the treatment, His cardiologist here didn't want him to travel even by plane--too risky. They argued back and forth for two days and Canada finally relented. He had two stents put in here and then Canada forced him to return there by cancelling the balance of his out of country insurance policy. He had to go or risk paying anything else out his pocket. That sucks. What is insurance for?

Silly rabbit. Insurance is to make Warren Buffet rich.

It makes as much sense as asking, what is the Canadian [or insert the name of your favourite workers' paradise here] government for?

There is no Third Way in Canada (Ralph Klein's words). There is no Second Way. Private health care/health insurance is not legal in Canada. Of course, those who can afford it make their own Second Way--pay for it in the US.

It is nice to have choices.

I have never heard of anyone spending even an hour in the US without having travel or snowbird private insurance, so I assume this was a private company insurance. I would like to know which company.
