I just tried posting a long drawn out post about my current situation and it didn't show up. That's good because I went back and read what I posted a couple years ago when I first signed up and it was pretty much identical :) except that I've padded the cushion some.

Quick re-intro: Turning 52 soon and self employed. I have 2 kids left at home 12 & 14 and my net worth is around 3 million. That includes our paid off house and some land for a possible cabin. Without those, around 2 million invested.

I have an interest in hearing what others who've retired early have to say about the stress they didn't realize they had until they pulled the plug. I really believe stress is the elephant in the living room.

Welcome back, Timeout! :greetings10:

Sounds like you've been doing well.

I agree with your premise about work-related stress...I knew I was stressed, but until I ERd I didn't realize HOW stressed I was.

I ERd 11 years ago and love my (mostly) stress-free life.

I don't fit your hypothesis at all. I knew I was stressed at work. Said another way, I knew that elephant well. Stepping out (ER) let me understand the stress and its causes. I learned a lot about myself and others.

Thanks for the replies. I know it’s (stress) there too but like I said, it’s not acknowledged much - at least not until now, and it’s not as if there’s anything extraordinary happening.

What this boils down to is finding the courage to jump. That’s why I come here- to witness others who’ve done it.

Perhaps listening to some mellow Neil Diamond music could lower the stress... (sorry -- couldn't resist - apologizes in advance).

Welcome Back

You know what? I hadn’t thought of that! [emoji848] Thanks for the warm welcome.

To speed responses to your specific interest, you might want to start another thread with the bolded portion above as the topic.
