Hello from Northern Virginia

Hello, I am 47 and recently retired (FIRE!) Married with kids. Trying to adjust to not working and to actually enjoy more of life. Hard to find others around my age and situation in my area. Looking forward to talking to you all.

Congrats on FIRE and welcome aboard. NoVA is one of the areas we're researching, looks/sounds like a great place to live.

It can be if you don't mind the traffic or can do things in off hours. Bring your checkbook though it is a bit pricy.

Have you looked into meetup.com? I haven't ever used this site; but I've heard some people have good results finding birds of a feather.

I live in Fairfax, VA, and I retired in January 2014 at 51 hrs old. Got bored and I took another job.

Nonetheless, I still consider myself semi-retired because I now work because I want to, not because I have to.

I enjoy having the freedom to make work related decisions on my own terms.

Someday I will move from Fairfax, but since I own my home outright, I am in no rush

Welcome! Lived in NOVA on and off (military moves me often). Much to do, but also very pricey, and cold this time of year!

Hope you enjoy your retirement as much as I think I will when my time comes!

Another NOVA person (right next to Wolf Trap). FI but not yet fully retired, mostly because I enjoy my job (three 8 hour days/week) and the associated pay, which is pretty high. Also, my spouse is still working part time, so I figure I might as well. Yes, it's an expensive area and the traffic totally blows. I second meetup.com

Welcome!

There are a few of us here that retired with kids still under the roof. There's a discussion/joke (I try to think if it as a joke) as to whether we're retired or whether we're stay at home parents.

I've got a couple middle schoolers still under the roof.

Congrats on reaching FIRE at a young age!

Congrats and welcome! You'll find lots of ideas of things to do around here - most of us find we have too many choices and don't come close to getting bored. Rather we wonder how we ever had time to w*rk. Just check out this thread to get a taste: http://www.early-retirement.org/foru...day-37868.html

44 yo, married with two little ones living in Potomac, MD. Pretty much FI, but money is too good to FIRE right now. Agreed on traffic and expensive town unfortunately, you really don't get what you pay for around here. Furniture stores, contractors, etc... All know folks here have money and in many cases are only here for 5-10 years, so they charge as much as the market will bear (and just a little bit more).
