Hi from a Wannabe early Retiree

Hi everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself before posting my current early retirement plan on the "Young Dreamers" section. I'll post links to the threads so they're easier to reference.

I graduated college with an engineering degree in 2012 and got a job with the government right away. It was my first real job, and even though I have always been a diligent and hard worker in other aspects of my life I wasn't used to what a 40hr/week job could do to your mind/time. I started seriously thinking about early retirement after about 2 years on the job and recently started taking steps towards that goal.

I have been married to my wife for a little over a year and she is on board with retiring with me at a young age. Though she also seems to be fine with working until a later age. She is currently in an accelerated 2nd degree nursing program and will hopefully be able to work as an RN early/mid next year. We live in a small home I bought 2 years ago.

We are both 25 years old, highly analytical, and cheap individuals =]

Welcome. I too was 25 years old when I decided the w*orking life was not for me and began taking steps to make early retirement a possibility.

You have the vision, now you have to develop the plan, and take the action. I started at 26 planning to retire at 52. Life happened along the way, and I'm not sticking to the original plan. Instead, I'm retiring in April when I'll be 50. The key is that I started at your age, and kept on track. And frankly, I probably could have retired earlier if I had set a more ambitious target, but I'm pretty good with the way things have turned out. I look forward to reading how things go for you.

Really? 40 hour work week with the government messing with your mind?

It's great that you're going to start saving and investing so you you have choices later in life. Deciding to create choices for yourself when you're in your 20's is a significant decision and I wish you the best in sticking with it.

Along the way you may encounter situations that ultimately instill a more realistic sense of what it takes to get through life, including dealing with the unexpected disaster that may come your way and the occasional sacrifice of your time and emotional energy to achieve your long term goals.

Maybe your path to FI will be easier than mine and some others. Hope it is, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones.
