I am new here...

I'm 54 yrs. married for 35 years, two daughters, both are grown up and on their own. Youngest daughter is married with two sons, and my oldest daughter is getting married in Sept. They are 29 and 31 yrs. I might be a little late, but I am really getting serious about planning for my retirement which is currently projected for the year 2026. Yeah, that will make me 68yrs old. I would like to figure out a way to retire at 60, so I figured this forum would be a good way for me to learn.

Welcome aboard, I know I've learned a lot here. I suppose you've already played around with FIRECalc: A different kind of retirement calculator, if not it's a good place to start. Asset allocation is important, but if you want to retire earlier it usually means saving more or spending less in retirement or both. No silver bullet really...

Welcome Infinity, you've come to the right place.

So, tell us more, what's the plan so far?

Well, I'm a teacher in Texas and my wife is an executive assistant at a University in Texas. We are both contributing to our respective retirement plans through the TSTA. She also has a 403B and I just enrolled in another tax-sheltered savings program through my scholl district, but I can't remember what the acronym is for mine... About a year ago, we opened a small driver's ed school for additional income and it has been going good. My plan is when I retire from teaching to just operate the driver's ed school. Other than that, we are trying to pay the house off and all other debt. The house note has been a nightmare! We were late for a number of years, just able to keep the forclosure from happening. Since we opened the driving school the added income has enabled us to catch up but we are still one month behind on the house note. We do see that we will be caught up on that as well in a few months.
