Pay attention grasshopper
Never planned my retirement, but saved lots, drove old trucks, and bought expensive homes. Started saving/investing with Vanguard 30 years ago, still do.
At age 54 and my wife 52 looked at our net worth, and said why not. Sold the house on the lake, bought 40 acres half a mile from a wilderness area. I still look at my life as "just not working anymore". We will do some traveling and good life stuff once SS kicks in. After 5 years of living off my investments, I find that I have more money than I had when I quit work 5 years ago. Not so bad.

Nothing, I just feed the birds and critters, and neighbors are few and far.

Purron, 3 rescue kitties all indoor cats, 3 rescue dogs, African spurred tortoise.
I feed the deer, quail, and javalina. The bobcats fend for themselves.
