Retired at 55

I was informed in October that I was to be laid off in December. I have been unemployed sine Jan 1 2öö5.
Currently live in Eastern Europe with wife and six month old child. After working so long it is difficult to suddenly stop, but spending time with my family, especially with my little son.
I am in contact with some of my collegues and thez are still grinding.
For me, many companies are looking to hire me because of my experience and location of where I currently live. I might go back to work one day, for enough money, but for the time being my family comes first.

I'm 55, not wealthy, but have a small next egg that I have stashed away. Residence is paid off and no mortgage. I have no debt whatsoever. No stress and responsibility for others.

To retire early is very easy to achieve. If I could do it, anyone can do it.

Life changes effect your financial situation but living in America, there is always opportunitz if you take advanatge of it and are in the right place at the right time.

Retired now and will turn 55 July 1st.
A major adjustment for direction in my new life and I can do anything I want to do if I put my mind to it.

Have fun and have a great day! 8)

GoulashBrother reminded me of something I tell DW..............
we can do anything we want, we just can't do everything.
Maybe not literally true, but still..........

Re: Retired at 55

Congrats to you GoulashBrother. I kinda was in the same boat as you as this happened to me several weeks ago. The difference was my former employer didn't give me any notice. At 57, I was planning to ER within a year so it didn't come as a total shock to me.

Good luck.
