Well, since I've already posted (FIRE and Money: Does anyone feel jealousy from friends/family/others?) I guess I should back up a little and introduce myself.

I will be retiring in September at 55, after nearly 28 years working as a librarian, and I am just giddy with happiness. I've been a lurker here and at the Retire Early board at the Motley Fool for a long time and it's been a happy surprise to find so many like-minded folk.

I am lucky to have a pension to look forward to, but thanks to y'all over the years I have been re-energized in my commitment to LBYM, socking money away in a deferred compensation plan, a ROTH IRA, and paying off the mortgage so I feel confident that I can take this step now, rather than later.

Aaahhh, life is good, the anticipation is sweet.

Awesome! Welcome to the board! I just delurked myself, last week. I always dreamed of retiring at 55 and now time is slipping on me since I just turned 58 yesterday.

Welcome! I'm just completing my 55th day of freedom, and I can assure you, it's worth working toward! "Giddy" is a great word to use...that's exactly how I felt on December 29th, my last day at the job. Hope to hear more from you as you continue on your journey!

Welcome to the boards. As a long-time user of libraries and the reference desk, I DO APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK done by librarians.

Thanks, in general most of the public are very nice to work for, the administration and the common council have increasingly provided incentive to retire as soon as I could. The last 6 years especially have just been a matter of toughing it out...with my eyes on the prize!

Welcome!

Are you going to retire in Sheboygan?

(There is only one Sheboygan in the world, isn't there?)

Congratulations, sheboyganite! I also ER'd at 55, eight months ago and am enjoying every minute of it.

Yes, I'll be retiring in Sheboygan, at least for the time being...there is also a Cheboygan in Michigan, oddly enough we aren't sister cities, but who'd want to go there, I bet they don't have bratwurst.

I visit cousins in Sheboygan regularly.

A long time ago, one of them demonstrated to me "the way to eat bratwurst"--two of them at one time on a roundish (Kaiser?) roll.

That's also where I first heard of the Polar Bear plunge and Legionnaire's Disease.

The marina is pretty.

Anyway, congrats on the forthcoming retirement!

Ah, yes, the hardroll. You can get good brats almost anywhere in the U.S. now, but fifty miles outside the Sheboygan city limits and what passes for a hardroll is pretty sorry.

I grew up in Grafton, which is about 35 miles south of you......... :D

I agree about the "radius of Sheboygan" thing............brats outside of Wisconsin ain't worth eating...............:)
