Raising cattle is a great job. A working ranch is very rewarding and always a profitable business but a fun working with cattle.
Keep us posted and have fun.

15 years ago, we bought our few acres out in the country and built our "forever home" thinking that this place would keep us young. it hasn't. it keeps us busy, forever doing chores and maintenance. while we love the place, it should be on the market by mid-September, the earliest that we can get it ready to sell.

When you get it down to one or two cows, that's when you'll be retired.
Be careful because cattle gets in your blood. Get a few, and you'll always want to have them in your life.
The trouble is you cannot begin to eat 100 head of cattle. And you'll have to pick and choose which one you want to keep in your freezer.
Are you raising them to sell? Or, are you breeding them for the long run?

So do you like it? Or would you rather sell the cattle and try again?

At least you don't have 100 dairy cows.

That "always a profitable business" part would surprise many ranchers.
