Yet another Texan

Been lurking for just a week and thought I would join in!

Late to marriage, late to home ownership, late to children and late to saving for retirement so I thought, what the heck, join right now and don't wait...

Fortunately, before marriage, future wife and I talked long and serious about marriage, kids and money. Afterall, we were old enough to have some wisdom and focus, and we were individually committed to doing the some things right, and the hard things first.

And while I had nothing much saved up, she had a condo in Boulder and so we started off okay.

Seven years later, with 2 lovely girls now 4 and 5.5, we live in Houston and spend our summers looking for swimming pools...

We are debt free and really try to control our expenses and save for retirement. Living within our means as opposed to living to feed our wants - seems to work for us, though certainly not typical in today's society.

Having made all the mistakes, many of them more than once, we hope to be good role models for our girls even as we hope to retire someday.

Well, there it is.

Re: Yet another Texan

Rural northeast Texas here. Lakes and trees and rolling hills. And all the bad stuff that has all ready been mentioned.

Just North of Dallas here. Hate the place (D), but can't think of anywhere I would like better!
