Announced this week, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for 2013 are:
Performer Category:
· Heart
· Albert King
· Randy Newman
· Public Enemy
· Rush
· Donna Summer
Ahmet Ertegun (non performer) Award:
· Lou Adler
· Quincy Jones
You're on a three-day solo drive cross-country on the interstates...in a car with a busted radio antenna. Whose greatest hits cassette would you bring for your walkman?
All are deserving in some way, but I am only a fan of three of them.
Rush certainly has the longevity, radio hits and musical / songwriting chops to be in the Hall.
I wore out some Heart LP's in college. They were a favorite for several albums, but they drifted into ballads and danceable pop a few times too many along the way. I lost my interest.
I rate Albert King at the top of the class, based on his influence on other musicians and timelessness of his music.
