On Windows,

Start > Run > charmap

or Windows key > R > charmap

then copy the characters you need and paste where you need 'em.

If you really want symbols try this sight:

Free symbols fonts - FontSpace

Lots of symbol fonts there. It says they are free, but I have never used any of them.
