Jack Kirk, a local legend in the bay area running community who was famous

- for running the Dipsea (the 2nd oldest foot race in the US and the subject of IIRC a Bruce Dern movie)

- living a primitive life-style in the sierra foothills without electrical power or runnning water

- scaring off trespassers with live ammunition

died at age 100.

IRRC reading that in the 70s he would run the Dipsea wearing polyester pants and all the runners in their cotton shorts throught that was pretty fun. Fast forward 30 years and polyester is the technical fabric of choice for endurance sports.

Asked the wife about downsizing from the house in silicon valley to one of those old cars mentioned in the article but for some reason she didn't seen real excited about it :confused:
