I am into the 4th month after an early retirement, loving it
so far. Hope you enjoy this poem on it. ( This is my budding retirement hobby )
An Early Retirement

Endless meetings, crazy deadlines
long commutes and traffic jams
constant stream of Sisyphean tasks
of course it was not all that bad
lot's of fun was had, along with that
but we know what he meant,
when he said that
three decades of hustling like this
are you surprised, this guy seems done?
three week vacations cut it no more
weekends come and quickly go.
401K, social security, medicare
COBRA or ACA, whatever, he don’t care,
outgoing expenses, incoming income
weigh them carefully, what is the outcome?
retirement, it’s feasible now, he declares.
Enough accomplished, had a good run
passing the torch to the next generation
a sigh of relief, some satisfaction
as he takes the bows, his retirement has just begun
no golden watch for him,
nor any farewell parties,
no one sang the jolly good fellow song
but the gentle smile that broke on his face
seemed to triumph them all.
the paychecks have stopped, some time ago
those pricey lunches, fancy lattes, have got to go
time is his new luxury now
as he sips his coffee leisurely, watches the birds ..
