The area where Aretha Franklin’s house was is an island in the middle of a very bad section of Detroit. The neighborhood is historic, but leave the neighborhood and it’s another world. Also, that is a 1920’s area house. If it hasn’t been very well maintained, you’re looking at big money to have it rehabilitated.

I used to live near there when I stayed at U of Detroit for an intern job in the 70’s. Even then those neighborhoods were like protected islands trying to maintain their dignity. Imagine trying to heat one those places.
