At Least 2 of Us Impressed by Chase Credit Card
Today I got an e-mail from Chase wanting to know if a charge was mine....
$50 in gas from a city about an hour from home. The charge had been denied by Chase. Not mine so they will block that card and send a replacement which is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I was impressed and I bet the culprit was too. I like to think I made their job easy since the card is only used for restaurants for the 3% reward. Guess I wouldn't have been too happy if I had been trying to buy gas......so I guess I need to be consistent.

I get pinged by CapOne regularly. Most recently when I reloaded both of my sons monthly bus passes (2 transactions, same $ amount). CapOne flagged it as a duplicate transaction and asked me to confirm. I'm fine with that.
Last year they left me voice mail and multiple emails (I was in an Italian class - so not online or at home) - 2 separate charges for pricey airfares (not mine)... I confirmed the fraud and was never charged... but they did issue a new card immediately.

They all are actually pretty good....
I bet they caught it because you probably never buy $50 worth of gas at one time...
I just wonder HOW they stopped it.... when I buy gas, I put the card in and then pump... so they do not know how much I am buying until I actually stop... kinda too late then....

That's happened to me with Chase. What happens is; your card is denied at the pump with a screen message to go inside to complete transaction. Inside the teller will request photo ID.

This has been pretty much the case for me with all my cards. Whats is the big deal? They are responsible for most fraudulent charges. So they are protecting their interest. I have had them deny some of my purchases when something is out of character, but after speaking with me they approve the charges.

+1 I see no reason to be 'impressed' with Chase.
OTOH, my AmEx through Fidelity handles all this very poorly. I've had the card get declined while I'm out, or maybe I get a generic sounding message left on my ans machine, and they lock my account online, so now I can't see what's going on, then have to call and get put on hold. Sometimes I don't get any notice until a day or two after the first decline. Then wait for a new card. PITA.

Maybe it's not a "big deal" but it's a "nice deal" when the credit card companies try to stay on top fraudulent charges. When they catch this stuff, it makes me feel "taken cared of." And, it saves the terror annoyance of seeing the fraudulent charge on my statement and then having the hassle of straightening it all out. So, yeah, the credit card company may benefit, but the credit card holder benefits as well (and gets to feel all warm and fuzzy and protected. Unfortunately, these feelings tend to dissipate all too quickly).

Not too long ago, I was in a local merchant using a USAA Mastercard. It was declined, so I used another card and contacted USAA when I got back to the car. They said it appeared that someone was trying to use my card at an "unfamiliar place" which was me trying to use it at Target! When I asked WHY they declined it, they said it wasn't near my home address. The Target is less than 3 miles from my house. Needless to say, I don't use that USAA card anymore.
